Deck Description

Goal: To kill people with the power of pinging! Each ability activation among all the cards here only does 1 damage. There is a strong retrace theme as well.

Do not take this deck seriously, your brain will explode like popcorn in Kansas.

Card choices:

Niv-Mizzet: Converts card draws to pings and forms an infinite loop with Curiosity.

Gelectrode: Another good canidate for curiosity and can be untapped via repeated spell casts such as Flame Jab or Raven's Crime

River Kelpie: River Kelpie works very well with the retrace spells allowing me to draw cards whenever i cast them, a draw which in turn can be used to activate Niv-Mizzet's abilitiy

Flame Jab: Repeatable Ping spell. combined with Gelectrode and Cinder pyromancer it can reach very high amounts of damage very quickly, combined with River Kelpie can let you filter lands while doing damage and trigger Niv-Mizzet's ability more often for ever more pinging.

Crucible of worlds: Allows you to play the lands you pitch to your retrace spells. Also, lands coming into play from the graveyard trigger the River Kelpie's ability meaning more cards.

Jace Beleren: Good early card draw, you probably won't use his ultimate ability.

Raven's Crime: early game it can help limit your opponent a little but its mostly there to give you something else to retrace if you can't find Flame jab. Might also consider putting mana accel (Izzet signets) in this slot if you have trouble living to end game.

cinder Pyromancer: effectively acts as Gelectrode 5-7 however they can't target creatures

Electrolyze: Technically this is two damage from a single source activation, but since you can split it I count it as two individual damage spells. Good cantrip for early creature control since it can take out 2/2s or two 1/1s and replaces itself.

Other card suggestions:

If you want to dip further into retrace Spitting image + Locket of yesterdays can copy your creatures or your opponents if you see one you like for suprisingly low amounts of mana.

In multiplayer situations Feldon's Cane Reminisce and/or Mnemonic Nexus are required or you will draw yourself out long before you kill all your opponents (even if you don't get the Niv/curiosity infinite loop).

there are others things your can do with this deck if your willing to do more than one damage at a time, for example Blightning and or Sedraxis Specter can help keep your opponents hand small early on when you are most vulnerable.

Chandra also works, though i left her out since except for her +1 ability she always does more than one damage.

Deck discussion for Death by Ping Ping

This is a well built deck, Id have to say.
Not too much you'd have to do to make it stronger. Just make sure that when Niv-Mizzet is out, that you can attack and not worry about defenders. Cuz if you just tap it to draw a card, you only deal 1 damage.
So if it's the only flier out, attack your opponent with him to deal 4 damage instead.
Otherwise, yeah, I would actually want to play against you to see how it rolls

Actually, all you would have to do is equip curiosity to Niv-Mizzet, tap Niv, then watch as your hand builds and your enemies health goes negative.

flame javelin instead of flame jab, and maybe clout of dominus to protect niv, other than that love the combo.

@ jahal: I considered clout and I would certainly side board it and even main deck it if the metagame was such as to expect lots of spot removal, but with my play group its not necessary. He will generally live long enough. Also, shroud means I can't cast curiosity on the Nivster so if I shroud him he looses that combo potential.

Flame Jab, in the current deck, is generally more efficient than flame jav... if you have a River Kelp out you can turn each jab into R discard a land, do one damage and draw a card. If you have a gelectrode it becomes R discard a land Shock. With more combo pieces it just gets better and better. Sadly, flame Jav does not have the synergy and while it is powerful its lack of synergy makes it less desirable for the deck, especially in place of flame jab. Flame Jav has the one use and then its gone, once Jab hits the grave it can turn any land i draw into burn with synergistic benefits.
