Goblin Standard Feb 8, 2010 V 3.5 (75 cards) by Andarious

Finished Deck

Calling this goblins 3.5. Made some significant changes to this deck, killed the Valakut and replaced with Teetering Peaks, works much better especially with the Warren Instigator. Traded the Burst Lightnings for Kindled Fury (which I may trade back).

Sideboard (15 cards)

i would strongly suggest getting rid of the tuktuk scrapper. they cost too much and are too situational (maybe a sideboard card). For a goblin deck you want cards that will come out fast and win fast. maybe put in 2 more fodders and 2 howling mines for replacements. then again, you have to prepare for your areas metagame so these are just merely suggestions.

you also do not have any other allies besides those so the tuktuks just dont seem to fit

id say the only thing i think it needs is a Goblin King, and also Rise of the Hobgoblins is an awesome way to bring in a bunch of goblin tokens

throw quest for the goblin lord in there, its good for this,
and ragging goblin for the win,

quest for goblin lord is unnecessary, using 1 mana early game to put it out wastes one of your critical turns, after turn 5 if you don't kill them it's gg.

drop tuktuk, add seismic strike instead of searingblaze, 1 more mana but since you're running mono mountains it's good damage

consider some type of t1 x spell for a kill if you have them close

overall looks good considering goblins are a little difficult to run type 2

I don't see Tuktuk as that expensive, they would definitely be a late play, if and only IF needed, they trash an artifact when they come into play, and if one stays out and you get a second one, they each trash one. The damage I always considered just a little bonus. Might throw in fireball or something instead, burn is always good I suppose. I could sideboard the scrappers, maybe.

Unfortunately rtother54 some of the suggestions you make would make the deck non-standard tourney legal.

I might consider Souls Fire for use with some of the bigger goblins if they get pumped up, or for use with Voracious Dragon.

Unforeseen synergy also exists with Soul's Fire and Warren Instigator, especially when one or more Goblin Chieftain are in play. One could pretty conceivably play Soul's Fire on Warren Instigator, do two damage (with a Chieftain) Play Siege-Gang Commander, all for 2R. And THEN attack still.

Believe it or not: One of the smartest ways to play this deck is by laying land and reacting with Burn, the only Goblins I would try and play very early are the Guides and Chieftains, only once I had a Bushwhacker or Soul's Fire (or both) in my hand would I be inclined to play Warren Instigator, against most decks anyway. Primarily I would spend my early turns burning potential blockers, blocking 1/1's with 2/2's and if no creatures were being presented as targets just nuking the crap out of my opponent. Only once a decent short combo presented would I risk playing some of the more fragile key pieces of this deck.

That being said, strategy needs to vary depending what your opponent is doing. It may at times be essential to use mana on creatures each turn, regardless of which creatures you can get out of your hand.

If I replaced anything with Seismic Strike it would probably be Bolt. Burst lightning does the same job as bolt, turn 1 kill, or late game can be kicked... OR play a Seismic Strike, by the time Seismic Strike is better than Searing Blaze the game has already gone too long, so I'd rather deal damage to my opponent than their creatures.

I finally got the chance to playtest this deck, pretty well a week after I originally theorized it. It plays beautifully. I have won every game so far by turn 5. I have not yet played against tourney quality decks, but it bodes quite well in my opinion.
