Deck Description

Horseshoe Crab likes things that let him tap. Viridian Longbow and Retraction Helix are the methods in this deck. The deck also includes creatures that can untap things which allows redundancy, mana accel, and utility.

How to Play

The deck can win a few different ways:
1) Pinging an opponent to death with Viridian longbow and untaps.
2) Swinging for infinite damage with Wake Thrasher.
3) Destroying/Removing all permanents with Lux Cannon and Retraction Helix
4) Beatdown with Spectral Force

Deck discussion for Horseshoe Crab and Friends

how does the infinite untap combo work?

Aphetto Alchmist or Seeker of Skybreak target themselves for untap. This causes them to tap and immediatly untap. Normally this would be a useless action, except Wake Thrasher gets pumped every-time something you control untaps.

The new inspired ability from botg would be perfect in this deck for when the combo doesn't work out!

I was originally "inspired" by the new mechanic, but determined that there isn't enough quality cards to use make use of it yet.

The Sphinx and zombie seems like the best options (to me), but neither really "fit" into this deck.

The new cards are certainly difficult to be brought up to speed with deck ideas like this one. Umbral mantle and an infinite mana engine will do this for them but it is a bit of a set up for just that win condition unless you are using the zombie that drains for 1. I tried tinkering around myself to use them but they are just too slow.

Certainly a cool idea though.

I just realized how incredibly easy this deck activates Quest for Renewal.

Murkfiend Liege? Gives you some more hitting power and lets KF etc go twice as often.

I like the way you think!

On average I think Spectral Force brings more power to the table, but untapping for more longbow seems like it could pay off in some situations.

Sideboarded for now :)

Seedborn Muse or Prophet of Kruphix may also have value. I can't say if any of them fit in this type of deck

I love the deck! But I might run freed from the real, and maybe try puresight merrow too! There are a lot of really nice untapping cards in eventide and shadowmoor. :)

Like Guilder Bairn. Untapping for doubling counters is fantastic. Especially with that new plainswalker in those colors. Or Jace if so desired. Because it does not care what kind of counters it doubles.

I suggest the Untap Combo + Wake Thrasher + Fling. Yeah, you have to drop red into the mix, but flinging a X/X Wake Thrasher is awesome and funny.

I built the deck with some "evasive" options in mind. The singleton Soaring Seacliff is there specifically for Wake Thrasher. I didn't want anymore than one though, messes up the tempo.

Using Retraction Helix to bounce every creature on the opponent's side of the board also works.

I am so glad that this kind of deck is finally getting top-spot love. Might I suggest some sort of evasion for the wake thrasher though? I do agree with Irishbrand's idea of fling but in color you could put in an Aqueous Form or something.

Here is my take on the untap deck archetype if you are interested. Its not the best but it has some interesting ideas :
