Deck Description

A deck led by my favorite Legend. With the release of the artifact based voltron in Commander 2017 I'll be looking to update and fix problems with the deck which has mostly been thrown together with cards from my collection and is most certainly in need of upgrading.

Phelddagrif is the key to the voltron strategy here. As a renowned "Group Hug" general your opponents will likely not expect you to come out swinging. His abilities don't seem that powerful at first glance, but the gifts he give are relatively small when compared to commander damage. The ability to let an opponent draw a card might seem detrimental, but the ability to basically dodge commander tax completely and protect your general at the same time is powerful.

With the idea of bouncing your commander to add resilience to your strategy, the low equip cost equipment and utility of creatures/enchantments to enchance your hippo becomes crucial and important.

How to Play

The suite of ramp cards helps you get ahead of slower decks and set up your win conditions. Ideally you want to have equipment to give your general haste, but the important thing is to have the ability to activate the bounce ability of your commander at basically any time he might be on the battlefield - even when casting.
Utility/defensive creatures and the handful of counterspell/removal should be used to protect yourself while you use your efficient equipment to beef up your general and use his natural evasion to get in for commander damage against important targets.

Utility lands in the deck are heavily weighted toward non-basic land destruction because of how devastating Maze of Ith can be to the deck.
