Deck Description

Trying out something a little different.

Thinking of switching out Thraben Gargoyle for Lupine Prototype. The Gargoyle is in here largely to be discarded and supply two types for Delirium. With all this discard and low mana cards (excluding Chandra), having an empty hand for Lupine Prototype shouldn't be too difficult.

*EDIT*
-1 Tormenting Voice
-1 Forest
+2 Pulse of Murasa

After playtesting (with Thraben Gargoyle in Lupine Prototype's slot), I found Tormenting Voice to bring very bad mid - late game. I'm testing Pulse of Murasa in here to hopefully get back a dead / discarded creature mid - late game.

How to Play

Play creatures with Delirium
Attack
...
Win?

---------------------------------

Vessel of Nascency; Lightning Axe; and Tormenting Voice help fill the graveyard with stuff for the Delirium creatures to benefit off of. Chandra's [0] can help here, but you should have Delirium before the mana required to cast her.

Evolving Wilds helps mana fix, deck thinning, and supply a card for Delirium. Thinking about adding 2 Warped Landscape to help here.

Deck discussion for Gruul Delirium

May want to think about Grapple With the Past for forcing Delirium. Crop Sigil would also work, but I prefer Grapple. I'd remove the Thraben Gargoyle and sub in 4x of them, as your 1-drop slot is covered by your Dryads, which are pretty strong 1-drops, and he's relatively expensive to flip. Between Grapple, Vessel, and your discard mechanics on some of your cards, you should have enough to force delirium pretty quickly.

I'd run 4x Cinder Glades, but that's just me. I love me some dual lands.

Soul Swallower is an absolute must here. Love that card!

B/G has very high potential for delirium mechanics. Look into Grim Flayer, he won me some games in pre-release. Also, Deathcap Cultivator is pretty nice.

I opted for red over black as I currently don't have access to Grim Flayer outside of ordering a set, otherwise I'd definitely go black. Now that I'm thinking of it, it'd be easy to splash black in here just for him, hmmm...

Grapple with the Past is a great card, but I think I have enough loot / discard / etc. already. After testing this a bit, I may consider it.

The Gargoyle is in here to be put into the graveyard (or block and die). It's both an artifact and a creature, so that's two types towards Delirium. After testing, if I find it to be too much of a gimmick, I'll remove it, but for now it stays.

I already have 3 Soul Swallower in the deck. Considering dropping a land to put the 4th one in.

The only reason I put two Cinder Glade in is I currently only own two. I'd play a full set if I could. Hell, I'd use Game Trail in addition to the Cinder Glades, if I had them.

Good thought on the Gargoyle. I love that artifact creatures give you two counts towards delirium. (I've drafted some sort of scarecrow at least once every FNM for this reason)

My only thought is, with defender, there's not a really reliable way to get rid of him. I've got Runaway Carriage in my B/G deck, (which you inspired me to finally build, btw!) just because I know I can force him to die instead of relying on someone attacking so I can block with him, or wasting some sort of burn/debuff card on my own creature.

If someone knows you're going for delirium, they may just find a way to keep him alive to prevent you from getting delirium as fast as you could.

Downside is he costs 4 instead of 1, but I enjoy his stability.

In this deck, the Gargoyle is often better in hand than on the battlefield as it can be discarded to Lightning Axe and Tormenting Voice. And if Vessel of Nascency reveals it, I'll almost always put it into the graveyard.

Ah true, I forgot about the discard mechanic! Statement retracted, good point!

I just had an idea. With all this discard + low mana cards (excluding Chandra); Lupine Prototype might be better than the Gargoyle.

Possibly. If you need to discard it, then delirium. If it's later game, and you're top-decking, more use out of it. Not a bad choice for this, IMO.

Managed to pull one Lupine Prototype last FNM (in a booster I got for coming 3rd, with a different deck); and I'm getting another in a trade. Two down, two to go :D

Got a set of Lupine Prototype :D

Also have a set of Sin Prodder. Thinking of trying to work in 2-3 of it.
