Deck Description

Its all in the name.
Classic Denial of Service, distributed by Pingers.
Hateful to play against!

How to Play

Focus on getting out Horseshoe Crab with Hermetic Study, Robe of Mirrors and Sigil of Sleep. Untapping Horseshoe Crab for machine gun attacks on opponents by utilising Hermetic Study, clearing their creatures with Sigil of Sleep. Use Curiosity on Prodigal Sorcerer and Rootwater Hunter to help set up the main combo. Use Counterspell and Power Sink to stay alive early and Arcane Laboratory to really slow your opponents down when your main combo is active.

Deck discussion for DDos

Great deck idea. If you get Hermetic Study and Curiosity on Horseshoe Crab, it's basically X: Horseshoe Crab deal X damage to target creature or player. Draw X cards. At the moment, I can't think of anything that could make this deck better. Seems pretty good already.

Once you get Sigil of Sleep in on the combo, you can focus entirely on the player, so:-
X: Horseshoe Crab deal X+1 to target player. Return X+1 creatures target player controls from the battlefield to owners hand.
I tend not to play Curiosity on the crab, but rather on the other pinger's for fear of self milling!

I've been through this deck in the past :D
For practical reasons you should play 2 hermetic study and 2 psionic gift to avoid cards like surgical extraction which will ruin the combo.

Try to have 5 of each relevant cards (5 crabs, 5 ping-enchantments, 5 draw enchantments and so on) which will increase the speed of you comboing with it.

I can tell you that my deck ended up being UG, because green adds deathtouch, so instead of placing a ping on the crab, you can place it on a deathtoucher, which will enable you to kill very large creatures with a single ping. Evasion is also important for curiosity, which is why I added river boa and marsh boa in the sideboard. Sigil of sleep is best on the crab, but you may want to place it on something unblockable as well if an opponent has pithing needle or phyrexian revoker.

Thanks, That's an interesting tip on Psionic Gift (Not heard of that one but i did drop out of magic for nearly 15 years!)
I'm not too worried about killing big creatures, as they end up back in the opponents hand and have to be re-cast using lots of mana, then sent straight back to their hand again on my next turn. If You have arcane study out, they can only cast one spell per turn anyway.
As for 5 of each card.. have the rules changed there? I thought only 4 of any one type were allowed?

No no, 5 of each "concept", you can use 3 hermetic and 2 psionics, there's a green creature close enough to imitate the crab, and a green version of curiosity, so you can actually play up to 8 of each of these concept cards, but only 5 are needed to combo reliably. There's also muddle the mixture which can get you the combo pieces or counter some spells.

as for fearing big creatures, they can be put into play by different means, bypassing arcane laboratory.
there are also spells that cannot be countered that might kill a crab which was why I started using snakes (they regenerate)

Okay, sorry.. I misunderstood.
I see what you are getting at now, But i'm not entirely convinced that it needs the green cards.
Admittedly, I don't play the deck often. My friends don't allow me to play it against them anymore, so I only get the opportunity to play it against people who haven't yet seen it!
I'm curious as to what you would drop in favour of the green cards?
What would you drop in favour of the extra lands needed for a two colour deck?

Demanding friends are the bane of fun, but so is friends who always play the same deck :D
So all of you should occassionally either build new decks or switch them around to avoid falling into boredom.

I can rebuild the list, but it will take some time to do that, and it had some differences from your build.

I have played since unlimited, and always played against the pro's with rogue builds, so I can "fix" my mana by using different techniques, so lands shouldn't be a problem. (in this case I'd split it into 11 islands and 11 forests, and if it was for competition play I'd go with 10 forest, 10 island and 2 tropical island or some other dual)

The golden rule is to be able to get 12 lands in each color, and fetchlands counts toward this. I can even adapt a threecolor deck to be able to play reliably around a turn 1 bloodmoon :D

It looked something like this:

Oh, it's not that I always play it, I do have plenty of decks, its just that they particularly hate playing against this one!

I see where you are going with that build, but Robe of Mirrors has potential removal of the crab covered, assuming i get it in play of course.
The fact that Horseshoe Crab can be activated and then untapped as many times as you have islands in play each turn, makes me reluctant to have any land other than islands in the deck. This machine gun effect with Hermetic Study keeps the battlefield clear of opposing creatures once Sigil of sleep is also in play.

Well, since your friends hate this deck, I think they are more in the casual category, because the deck is not that tough to break :D

If they ever discover how to beat it, post me, and I'll help you out :D

We were all quite competitive back around 1998-2001 (hence the age of cards in this deck), attending various competitions around the country, but it became quite expensive to stay competitive and girlfriends/wives became an issue in both time and money. I stopped playing entirely until quite recently.
Even when/if the deck does get reliably beaten, I think i'll just take it on the chin. Allow them to bask in their glory and leave the deck unaltered. I have other decks, some are even modern and its fun to throw an old throwback into the mix every now and then.
