6 Million Digits of Damage?

by DragonFire on 15 June 2014

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Johnnies, all of you, behold your God, for this is possible.

How to Play

First, cast Angel's Grace and Ad Nauseam to draw your whole deck. Then play a Gustha's Scepter and activate its first ability and put Lotus Bloom under it. Then, Reshape the Scepter and after it and the Lotus are put into the graveyard, respond to the second effect of reshape by casting (NOT PAYING LIFE) a Noxious Revival, to put the Lotus on top of your now nonexistent deck. Get the Lotus in play from Reshape, and play a Lotus Petal. Sac the Petal for 1 white and cast a Children of Korlis, to go back to 20 life, then sac the Bloom for 3 green and play Channel, and get 19 colorless mana (no, you can't pay life below 0 and stay alive with Angel's Grace). Use 4 of it and cast Gemstone Array. Activate the Array for 2 colorless, and get 1 white to play another Children of Korlis, gaining 38 life, and adding another 37 colorless mana to your mana pool. Use 4 colorless mana and the Array, cast Recurring Nightmare, and with the other 37 mana and yet another activation of the Array, cast a Tempt with Vengeance. From there you get a loop: Sac a token, bounce your Nightmare, reanimate Children, make a bunch of mana, sac Children, play Nightmare, repeat. Because the Children's effect is cumulative, numbers get real big, real fast. Once you run out of tokens, cast Mystic Retrieval, and play Tempt with Vengeance again. Once you run out of tokens for that, flashback the Retrieval and play Tempt a third time. Keep making mana until you run out of tokens, and use Array and the insane amount of colorless mana, cast a Banefire directly at your opponents face. The number is too long to even write out, but it has 6 million digits, or somewhere close to that.

You're welcome.

Deck discussion for 6 Million Digits of Damage?

This is bonkers. How did you come up with this! If only it was legal in Legacy or Vintage...

I was looking through all of my random junk rares and found the scepter. And one combo led to another, until this came together

Also I think I edited it more than 20 times to get it to work. The first combo I did was instead of going through all the trouble to get lotus bloom into play, it just had black lotus, but it was so cool I actually wanted to make it, so I devised the rest of the combo from there. I actually broke like 12 calculators trying to calculate the number. :D

My only question is: when you sacrifice Children of Korlis, does it activate Recurring Nightmare?

May want to look that up.

It does not activate the nightmare. In order to keep reanimating them, you use the tokens from tempt with vengeance and the absurd amount of mana from channel to loop. It all works, I've tested the combo hundreds of times.

You can't use Reshape. You've already drawn your entire deck with Ad Nauseam, therefore you cannot search your library. Sorry.

@osyruz Hover over the bold red text saying that its Not Legal In Legacy or Vintage. Ponder and Mystical Tutor are banned in Legacy, while Ponder and Mystical Tutor is limited 1 in Vintage. The x5 cards are an issue yes, but the main reason is the legality of those 2 cards.

Split second says as long as this spell is on the stack, you can't cast additional spells etc. Since it resolves it leaves the stack and goes to the grave, which then allows you to cast further spells. also, my take on this: http://www.mtgvault.com/nydira/decks/mind-grind/ seemed alot easier to just mill lands of all your opponents, instead of straight burning 1 opponent and die to the others.

You can make this Vintage legal by cutting 3 Ponder, 2 Mystical Tutor and adding 1 Vampiric Tutor (1 Imperial Seal, haha) and some Ponder substitutes. You could even add a Yawgmoth's Will/Past in Flames to go even further.
Very cool budget Channel/Fireball combo.

Imperial seal is my jam, yo. Everyone tries to counter it when I cast it in EDH just so they can say they countered something valued at their deck price. :P
But yeah, I second these changes, you'd be like one of the hundred Vintage Paper Magic players left on the planet, haha. And a BUDGET one, the greatest kind. (Yes, I made a hyperbole, but how often do you play Vintage Paper anyway?)

I would like to correct that you CAN stay alive at 0 life with Angel's Grace and you CAN pay life to 0 (supposing Angel's Grace resolves as normal; it specifically says that you can't lose the game this turn, regardless of the circumstances). The only stipulation of paying life is that you may only pay life that you actually have. So, if you cast Channel and you have 0 life, you have no life to pay for the effect; you also can cast Noxious Revival by paying life as long as you have 2 life to pay, if you only have 1 or 0 life then you can't (even without a card that prevents game loss, it is legal to do this).

Also of note, paying life is considered the same as loss of life, so Angel's Grace's damage reduction won't affect any of what I mentioned above. All that aside, I really like the combo :) keep up the good work, Johnny!

your using angels grace to be able to basically draw your whole deck and not drop from 1 to 0? but the card says damage and not loss of life. but it also says you cant lose the game this turn so you could technically go negative until you get your children of korlis into play is that about the scope of it?

Something like Propaganda would work.

Also...running 4 Ad Nauseam and 2 other cards that cost 4 mana, as well as other cards that cost mana...you run the small chance of killing yourself. Might want to consider 3 Ad Nauseam instead of 4...even if it is one of your main cards.

Most people, who use Ad Nauseam, prefer to go with as little mana curve as possible.

Not being harsh, but i have personally killed myself with Ad Nauseam...more then once, by drawing into another Ad Nauseam, causing me 5 points of damage.

I love City of Brass, personally.
Back in the day, when my friends would laugh at me for taking damage for tapping land...i still loved it!
Secure mana base, regardless of the card, rocks.
That is why City of Brass has been consistently priced for over 10 years now.

The Gather:
Fyi

City of Brass is rated 4.562 out of 5 stars
Mana Confluence is rated 4.558 out of 5 stars

So, the jury is still out on that one. But technically the City of Brass is rated .004 points higher than Mana Confluence.

1

Sure, Rishadan port loves damaging you and de-securing your mana base :P

0
Posted 25 June 2014 at 08:52

You have me there, Gothy.
In regard to Rishadan Ports power versus use of City of Brass/Mana Confluence:

City of Brass is worse off.

Because Port will tap City of Brass causing you one point of damage.
When Port taps Confluence it doesn't cause one point of damage.

So, with the Port, Mana Confluence is better.

But things to pay attention to in regards to City of Brass vs. Mana Confluence
1) You can't pay life you don't have.
2) Life loss can't be prevented like damage can.
3) Cards like Angel of Jubilation wreck Mana Confluence while City of Brass flies right by it.

The cost difference of 12 dollars to 4 dollars is because Confluence is Standard and City of Brass is not. When it goes out of standard, what how much it drops in price!!

0

All 3 will be irrelevant in vintage I'm afraid, rishadan port will not be!

0
Posted 25 June 2014 at 18:54

That is why, when I played it was 5 dollars a card.

These statements are both wrong, plain WRONG. You cannot pay something you do not have. If you could why would people care about mana cost? or have lands in their decks? you could just ignore the rules just like dragonfire is.

Also life loss and dammage taken ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS.

0
Posted 25 June 2014 at 22:23

You can pay 1 life that you have to go to zero, and because of Angel's Grace, you can't lose. Ad Nauseam will also lower your life to below zero.

Hmmm, so you can't pay your last bit of life to any costs that involve you losing life? Thanks Gothy for not being an ass about it, can't say the same to Dantanius though (did you really have to all caps me? I was just asking a question .-.)

0

Um.... Yes you can pay your last life and go to 0 with Channel. Your life total can go below 0 if you LOSE life, but it can't when you PAY life. Yes Angel's Grace prevents you from losing the game.

This deck is made by a retard. He proves it several times and even writes it straight out in the description:

Firstly:

"First, cast Angel's Grace and Ad Nauseam to draw your whole deck."
a few lines later:
"(no, you can't pay life below 0 and stay alive with Angel's Grace)."
This is a link to Gatherer, wizards of the coast's own card library complete with rulings beyond all doupt (as they MAKE the cards and decide who gets to become judges) http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=370545

Not the two first rulings, these are considdered Basic. That means people having played 1-2 games of magic all their lives should know this:
9/25/2006 The last sentence applies only if your life total is being reduced by damage. Other effects or costs (such as "lose 1 life" or "pay 1 life") can reduce your life total below 1 as normal.
9/25/2006 You can't pay more life than you have.
9/25/2006 If your life total goes below 1, being dealt damage will not increase it back up to 1.

Secondly:
"play a Gustha's Scepter and activate its first ability and put Lotus Bloom under it. Then, Reshape the Scepter and after it and the Lotus are put into the graveyard, respond to the second effect of reshape by casting (NOT PAYING LIFE) a Noxious Revival, to put the Lotus on top of your now nonexistent deck."

Long story short he wants to use a ton of cards and mana to put something into his graveyard and then get it back into hand. that's all it does. litterally.

Why the hell do "people" like this actually get good ratings? And why do decks like this get good ratings? He's litterally telling anyone willing to look at it to straight out cheat and hope that their opponent knows even less about rules than he does. Most of the rest of his "combos" are just the same way, they dont work or only work if he can bend or break the rules.

These people are DESTROYING the MTG environment. Stop liking them, Stop following them and punch them in the face if you ever see them in real life. They're only here to ruin it for the rest of us.

you sir, are a douche. if he is wrong correct it. but "punch them in the face" is too far.
if you wanna be an ass i dont really want to see your feedback. what have you contributed?

1
Posted 25 June 2014 at 22:37

This is a Budget Channel Fireball deck (one that doesn't use Power Nine). It ABSOLUTELY works the way it says it does. It is absolutely very complicated. That's just what happens when you try to create this exact deck.

It's not "responding to the second effect" it's responding to Reshape itself (a cost of playing Reshape was sacrificing Gustha's Scepter. When Gustha's Scepter is put into the graveyard, so is Lotus Bloom. Then Reshape is put on the stack). So when Reshape Resolves, Lotus Bloom will be on top of the library (so long as Noxious Revival resolved).

This deck got good ratings because of how interesting it is. Simple as that. Nothing in the MTG environment has been destroyed, and I'm certainly not going to punch someone in the face for playing magic.

I do understand where he is coming from. I really do.

NOT TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS DECK

But I have had pretty much the same rant, red in the face, mad as hell at people on this site.
In particular it was this one deck that ran Wee Dragonauts.
Everyone freaking loved it!!
And I went on a rant, very similar to his, wondering outloud/written form, how a deck that was so weak/so open to attack/so easy to disrupt could get so many damn likes!
People told me to stop being a douche, but as I said, I see where Dantanius is coming from.
That Wee Dragonauts had one win condition that relied on 4 cards in his entire deck.
Let me repeat that again, this deck that had 30-40 likes had ONE WIN CONDITION THAT RELIED ON 4 CARDS. One burn spell, and he loses. One counterspell, and he loses. One prevent damage spell, and he loses. Hell, ONE FREAKING BLOCKING CREATURE, and he loses the game!!

There are HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS of decks on this site way better than that crappy Wee Dragonauts deck...but did they get any likes? Definitely not 30 or more likes, that is for sure. So many good decks get passed over because no one know understands the decks, or feels intimated to suggest ideas. And so many crappy decks, on this site, get a lot of likes because they are very simple, easy to suggest ideas, and easy for everyone to gather and discuss around.

Finally felt vindicated when people started saying the same thing about that Dragonaut deck...why in the hell would such a fragile deck be so liked when so many other decks on this site could beat it with their eyes closed.

And I am not just fussing at other people. Two of my top decks on this site (I think I erased them after I realized they would not work according to Magic rules), with the most likes, did not work!!! And yet a lot of people voted for them! And as Dantanius said, people liked them even though they did not even work!
Example: I have a Donate/Grandeur deck on this site with 9 likes!! And it doesn't even work because I can't pay for the upkeep cost (need something like Sapphire Medallion).

It is aggravating to put weeks into a deck. Design it. Test it. Over and over. Build it. Win with it. And post it on here and it get no likes while some super flawed/non-working/one win condition deck gets 50 plus likes. What is the worst is to know that your deck would beat that 50 like deck 10 out of 10 games.

Jessie, so what if there are a lot of people who like a deck with obvious weaknesses? You know about the three main player types, the Timmy, Johnny, and Spike? That kind of deck appeals to Johnnys because it's weird, it's challenging, and it's an awesome combo. So what if it doesn't work 9 times out of 10, if it works just once they'll be satisfied. That's just the kind of people we Johnnys are.

And you, too, Dantanius. So it's not your kind of deck, and so there are more people who are into weird, challenging, and original decks that might not even work at all than there are people who like solid, stable decks. That's fine, it's not a big deal. So you disagree, whatever. Disagree, nobody's gonna stop you from that. But don't hate.

I may keep being a dick...but I will also keep destroying decks that:
Have no answers to artifacts/enchantments
Have 4 cards in the entire deck that can actually win them the game
Only have 1 win condition.

And I will keep questioning hot decks with 50 likes, that are amazingly weak and prone to lose.
Poor spirit or not. Party pooper or not. Naysayer or not. IF your deck is weak, and gets 50 likes, I will call you out on it. More and more people on this site have come to the same conclusion (not naming them, take your wrath out on me, not them, they have their own Article pages complaining about what I am in this post). But many have already left Magic Vault, blaming crappy budget decks, copy decks, and 1 win condition decks CONSUMING the Hot page. The guy that introduced me to Magic Vault doesn't use this site anymore. I beg him to come check it out, occasionally, and he asks, "Is all the hot decks still either budget, have 1 win condition, and are copies of other decks?" I have to answer truthfully and say, "yes, 99 percent of them are either budget, copies of other decks, or only have 1 win condition."

His answer, "Get back to me when they start focusing on quality decks." And he is freaking right. Sadly, he is right. I don't blame him for not visiting this site anymore. I, and a few others, are trying to change that.

You are right, Gothy, "enjoy yourselves."
For me, that doesn't mean for me to make a SUPER NEAT AND CREATIVE DECK, that is weak, and to lose 90 games out of 100.

Hell, I even argue this: If a deck wins 1 game out of 10...regardless if it is one hell of an amazing win...you still lost damn 9 games out of 10. 1 quality win is better than than 10 poor wins. Yeah, I don't follow that philosophy.

Even their argument (Johnny) is weak...If you got your deck to "do it's thing" and win once...it has been a success.
Well, listen to this, if you got your deck to "do it's thing" successfully then you would have MORE THAN 1 WIN OUT OF 10. Weird or not. Challenging or not. Awesome combo or not. You can have weird, challenging, and awesome and still have a winning deck. Try harder.

"That kind of deck appeals to Johnnys because it's weird, it's challenging, and it's an awesome combo. So what if it doesn't work 9 times out of 10, if it works just once they'll be satisfied. That's just the kind of people we Johnnys are." Even that is a weak argument.

You are assuming that you can not make a deck that is weird, challenging, awesome, that is Super Neat and Creative...and it be successful. You can have a Johnny deck, and it still be solid: having more than 1 win condition, having answers to artifacts/enchantments/have more than 4 cards in the deck that win you the game.

Spikes and Timmys unite!!!
Let us get great decks back on the Hot Page.
Decks that aren't dime a dozen copy decks.
Decks that aren't Article decks.
Decks that are actually solid, well rounded, THAT WON'T LOSE TO A SINGLE BLOCKING CREATURE./ONE COUNTERSPELL/ONE DIRECT DAMAGE SPELL.

Sorry for the rant. It does get aggravating. But I don't want to keep sounding like a douche. Sorry. This isn't he proper place to complain. Maybe in Forum. I love this site. Go to it daily. I get great enjoyment out of Magic Vault.

I probably just need to like decks that I think are actually good. And hope other people do the same.

Let my decks, and suggestions on other decks speak for themselves.

Just putting this out there, Scapeshift, Storm, Ad Nauseam Splinter Twin, Reanimator, Dredge, etc... They can all lose to a single card.

Not to mention almost every aggro strategy dies to a single card, a wrath or Elesh Norn or the like. However Jessie is right, screw these article decks! Lets make the vault strong again!!!

At least please don't hate on the deckbuilders for the number of OTHER PEOPLE who have liked their decks.
And I don't know how to explain it, but I find a deck like this a lot more appealing than a deck with a solid strategy that works out all the time. For me, if I KNOW I'm going to win, or at least come real damn close, every single time, it's just not as fun. That's who I am. I get it, you're a different kind of person. You play to win, your preference is quantity of wins over quality. I get it. I'm not trying to disrespect you or anything. But there's other people out there different from you, and different from me, and they like things that neither of us is going to understand. Heck, I've heard of a guy who's sexually attracted to owls. I don't get it. But I'm not gonna try putting him down for it.

And like Zaklax13 said, I just use this site to save my deck builds so if I ever want to revisit them I can. Likes don't matter to me.

Thanks. :)
And here I came back with a little story to tell. See, a while back my brother and I were dueling. He ran a Red/Green huge creatures deck, and I had White/Black that focused on life gain/drain. He dominated me. He had Krenko, Mob Boss, and by the end of the duel had over 2000 Goblin tokens. But he spared me for a while, just for fun.
I did finally win, but it was cheap and not so fun. Afterwards, when I looked through the next few cards I would have drawn, I saw that if I had waited just 4 more turns I would have drawn Congregate, which would give me 2 life for every creature on the battlefield. I also had in play Sanguine Bond, so that whenever I gained life my opponent lost that much.
So, to recap, if I had waited just 4 more turns I would have used Congregate to gain over 4100 life (there were other creatures on the battlefield besides the Goblins) and he would have lost that much. I still would have won, but it would have been SOOOOO much more satisfying. So even though I won, I'm frustrated because I missed that great opportunity!

maybe if everyone just makes a creative deck that has a theme and isn't a net deck or some 8 card combo deck, then we can all ignore this whole conversation and move on. And i do agree that every deck has a weakness, like dredge loses to leyline of the void, and strom loses to eidolon of rhetoric and reanimator loses to grafdigger's cage, but it is not ,like people are going to maindeck them like burn spells and counterspells or blockers. :)

I don't really care about how many likes my decks get. I just put them on here to see the stats, get tips and keep a record of the decks I have built.
Sure it is easier to get more tips and advice if my decks were on the front page but I find that I get some pretty good help if I just use the site. I go and look at other people's decks, make some comments/give some tips about their decks and then they MAY return the favor (People seem to be pretty nice on here so they usually do). I actually learn a lot more that way.

So what if a bad deck gets a bunch of "likes"? I don't see the point in stressing over it.

Kudos to you, Zia. I feel the same way. Of course it'd be great to get a lot of Likes for the decks we build, and get a high rep too, but all-in-all... the site is meant to be a constructive tool to help players, to bring together a community, and to have fun.

I will agree to both Zia and jerzey.
That is what i have done to get decks on the hot page.
It has taken me over 1500 comments on other decks to gain a rep of 296 (almost there to 300).

I just hate to see people that don't do that, with crappy decks, end up on the hot page.
Especially considering how much time I put in decks, how much time i spend searching for cards to suggest to people, and how much positive advice I try to give to other people's decks.
Then you see these people who never post on anyone's decks, who have crappy decks themselves, but are at the top of the hot page.

It irks me.
But it is about having fun. It is about people helping you build better decks.
It is about the Magic community.

Agreed.

I agree with all you three, it doesn't make sense if someone likes aggro decks and a combo or control deck gets to the top and they flip. and it seems that the nice people get a lot of happiness so why be mean? :)

To the Johnnys of the world, this is for you.
Will rarely win, but when it does, it will be the talk of your local Magic Shop.
Hope you like.
