Does Death's Shadow really beat a card like Hedron Crab for a spot? Your land is only the way to hurt yourself and in the end you need another card to enable it when that too could just be more general mill. Just my 2 pence on it

This deck is supposed to act like a mill deck at first. Death's shadow is one of the top cards in modern right now so I created this twist. When ever I play a mill deck I always get really close to milling my opponent while I have low life and end up losing. Death's Shadow decks do that on purpose.
I see the logic but wouldnt damnation or a more upside defensive blocker work better?
