Deck Description

I've only just gotten into the Jund/midrange scene, so I'm pretty new to this. I really like this list as opposed to the regular Jund (4 Dark Confidant, more consistency in the numbers and far fewer one-ofs) and here's why. This deck is a lot like your average Jund deck, but it does run blue. I think that's made possible because of Grim Flayer. What Grim Flayer does is it allows us to be a lot less consistent by filtering really hard for what we need when we need it. This also allows us to diversify our sideboard and run lots of one-ofs there, too. I have Grim Flayer in the list to give good consistency with its combat trigger, it's a big creature (allowing me to cut Kalitas and Tasigur), it digs through the deck really efficiently (allowing me to cut the Dark Confidants). This freed up enough slots that I wanted to try out something that hasn't really been popular for a while. Blue Jund, basically just playing Jace, Vryn's Prodigy and Serum Visions. These are to replace the lost card engine that was Dark Confidant. Jace plays well to this deck's strategy, to basically get into topdeck mode and grind to win. I think there are very few cards that do this as well as Jace. Serum Visions is there because I'm playing blue and it's a good card, and I wanted to be able to draw. Plus, the scry late game can be so so good. I think that this list plays the late game a lot better than the standard Jund list but probably doesn't do as well against aggro. I'm relying on Lightning Bolt, Terminate, Abrupt Decay, and some really powerful sideboard options (like a normal Jund deck, just in fewer numbers and more dig) to beat aggro. I think I'll lose less life to Dark Confidant which will be good when the game goes too long. This is especially important against fair tempo and midrange decks. In the control matchup the life doesn't so much matter. Overall, I think this deck lands somewhere between Jund and Abzan. It does better than Abzan against aggressive decks, but better than Jund in midrange matchups. These are just my thoughts, I intend to put this to the test but I believe this is where it lies. The meta right now is leaning pretty heavily towards Jund becoming popular again, which bodes well for this particular list, but with Burn and Dredge on the rise, we'll get crushed until we start sideboarding really aggressively for them (Feed the Clan, Anger of the Gods, more Kitchen Finks).

How to Play

Early hand disruption and good removal takes you into the late game, which is where you shine. Every card is high impact, which means your topdecks are really solid. You want to land threat after threat. Basically all you need to know about the deck.
