Deck discussion for Token, You Can Play Bass

I don't think this deck can hack it in legacy as is, but it's playing dark ritual which is a very un-fun card. Also while it will break the bank I would strongly suggest using verdant catacombs so that you can ensure having lands in the graveyard.

This is a brilliant idea! I put terramorphic expanse in and sideboraded verdant catacomb (I will probably never be able to afford it). I only use dark ritual cause my friends who i play casually with are unfun and use so I don't really have a choice. Do you have any other pieces of advice?

hmmm, well maybe evolving wilds as well. also if your casual enivronment runs with dark ritual (one of the most aggressive and powerful aggro cards ever made), then I can probably think of some stuff.

First off if you use 4 green sun zenith, then you can afford to have 1 fewer of every creature in the deck that costs 3 or more and still be able to get them out consistently (though no fewer than 2 of any creature). Also Ivy lane denizen + mycoloth. While not recyclable something to look into is Chord of Calling, which since it is an instant can be cast right before your turn comes up, and should be easy to cast with all the token you use. Like as an example lets say you have 6 token s a birds of paradise, a creakwod liege, and an ivy lane denizen. At the end of their turn tap the 6 tokens and some lands to play chord of calling fetch mycoloth, have him eat the 6 tokens. Then on your turn he brings in 12 friends, ivy lane denizen spreads around 12 counters, then mycoloth swings for massive damage. Actually with 3 zenith and 3 chord of calling the deck should be so consistent that you would only need 2 of any given creature that isn't a 1 drop. Of course that's only the start.

Since I'm brainstorming really fast and your not responding quickly, I will continue on with what I was saying. Assuming that you followed my advice and either went with 4 sun zeniths or 3 suns and 3 chords, that opens up 2 spots for something other than creakwood leige. I would start by suggesting Champion of Lambholdt. Excellent fatty that can allow to swing unblocked for game. Another option is eternal witness, which will allow you to recur things like say any green sun zenith that may have been countered or milled. Fertilid can use Counters to ramp you up to ridiculous mana (though since you probably want 3-4 lands in your graveyard mana ramp might not be what your going for). Fleshbag maurader is more sacrifice based removal, always good for a token deck (though he can't be fetched with green sun zenith, he's not green). Necroplasm (if you have a way to put counter on him) allows you to have a controlled boardwipe each turn, also he is dredgible, which means if you need him he can return from the graveyard (though also not green). Psychetrope Thallid will give you card draw so long as you have saporlings. The final 2 recomendations I can make are Splinterfright, a trampling fatty who fills your graveyard (though in this deck I'm not so sure he would work well, as he needs creatures in the graveyard to live and on the third turn its very possible that you won't have any creatures in the graveyard) and somerwald sage, a potent mana ramp creature. The utility creatures really only need to be a one of, also you really only need 1 doomgape as well so that's another card slot open. You may have noticed that I have listed off are all 3 drops (well you probably didn't notice on your first read through, but you would have noticed it). This is so that the deck will work (ideally) as follows.
TURN 1: play terramorphic expanse and fetch a forest or swamp(whichever you don't have in hand). OR: play forest, birds of paradise.
TURN 2: play other land play dark ritual and green sun zenith search for your favorite 3 cost creature whatever is the most helpful against what your facing (maybe if your friends are removal happy throw in some decent 3 drop hexproof onto the list above). OR play land tap all 3 and play underworld connections or whatever 3 drop you might have in hand.
TURN 3: proceed to begin enacting your evil master plan with whatever creature you got the turn before. OR play a land and then play whatever 4 cost thing you have. OR OR save your mana for removal cause you only took a 2 land hand with a dark ritual because your greedy and now you have to play defensive.
Of course this is probably only the first third of my brainstorm. However I will stop here because I don't know if you like the deck I'm describing/ are able to get any of the cards I just mentioned.

This is amazing, champion is a card that I could absolutely throw in this deck and 2 more green sun's could definitely be done. Sorry i don't answer very quickly though. Eternal Witness could be an interesting spot in here as well, although maybe I could run noxious revival as well for the utility..? Do you really think I should take 2 of the creakwood's out, or did I misunderstand that?

Yeah 2 creakwood can come out if you have 4 zeniths (or 3 chords of calling and 3 zeniths eirther way works). They don't have to come out, its just that your ability to fetch them will mean you don't need 4 in the deck for them to come out consistently. Green sun zenith is basically every creature in the deck at the same time + 1 green mana. So you can fetch what you need with it, meaning that you don't need to have a whole 4 copies in the deck for the deck to work. As for noxius revival, its certainly a good card, but it can't be tutored with green sun zenith, eternal witness can, which is why I recomended it. Basically with all the search in your deck you want to have an answer to anything that can come at you at any given time, so that you will never play a game that you couldn't have won. For example right now a major weakness of your deck is flying creatures. You can't stop them. So perhaps chuck in 1 SilkLash Spider. Up against a fast red deck and need to gain some life before you get burned to death? Get Oracle of Nectars out of your deck (and hope they don't just burn the creature to death) though i think Essence Warden has you covered for life, so you can ignore that. Need to get land in your graveyard for next turn?, tutor up Jarad and play him, then next turn swing for a lot of damage unless he was already killed and is already in the graveyard, in which case tap your lands for mana sacrifice 2 of them for Jarad to return to your hand, then play Worm Harvest. The trick is to have your mana curve just right. Another great card is Sprout Swarm, allowing you to use tokens to make more tokens, allowing you to flash in blockers. The idea of the deck as I am envisioning it is to have 2 of every important creature, 1 of several support creatures, and then use zenith to fetch what you need when you need it. The reason for 2 of the more important creatures is so that if 1 gets exiled your not screwed. Now, as I said before, the the real trick is getting the curve right. Ordinarily I can do this pretty easily but dark ritual shifts mana curves all over the place. Anyway I've given you a bunch my ideas. What do you think?

It's basically all about the combos. Which combos do you want? Seriously i think I have rattled of so many combinations of synergistic cards and what-not that 2 decks could be built. The only real problem I can see now is that except for Creakwood Leige, you have nothing making tokens for the Mycoloth to eat. Which means that your play order while flexible enough, is going to have to be:Zenith up/Cast creakwood. Couple turns later cast Mycoloth. Unless mycoloth just . . . eats jarad or essensce warden or something. Which is why i suggested Sprout Swarm, as a token generator. Basically you need something to make some tokens (or something that you don't mind dying, like say Viridian Emissary) so that when you are ready for Mycoloth to come out and smash some faces, he has something to snack on. The reason I suggested Ivy league Denizen is because it combos really well with anything that makes green tokens. (like mycoloth and creakwood leige). Basically there are a whole bunch of ways you can make this deck, however I think I have helped enough. Also I will admit though i tried to account for it, i'm not used to building dark ritual into the deck likeI said it makes mana curves all wonky, so it's quite possible that some of the suggestions I've made don't work out. Also something to consider is putting in creatures as your removal. Like for example, Acidic Slime to destroy non creture permenants. Shreikmaw (while not instant speed) is basically doomblade. Then again at this point I think you can work it out yourself what will work and what doesn't I've probably slightly flooded you with all the ideas I have had. At this point you need to figure out what works best, and what doesn't test it a bunch. I have a somewhat similar deck (not really, its completely different its just also green black) that I call "Phyrexia's Ascension". If your interested in my deck look it up, might give you some ideas.

You've been super helpful. Really thank you very much. I have been trying to figure out how to edit this so far. I think Mycoloth taking the worm token and anything that's left is pretty much game breaking. I also was thinking of adding in awakening zone instead of rancor for constant token creation as well. I like sprout swarm, but I think the cost is a little high, but the convoke does help. I'm going to be pondering for a little while. Their are some awesome combos here though.

When you've figured it out, go ahead and repost it I'm eager to see how the deck ends up. However, it ends up.

So any progress?

Some of the progress that I have made so far has actually been to try and speed up the deck and try and protect my lieges. I am keeping in 4 of them, but am taking out the mycoloth. I am turning the purpose of this deck into really being worm tokens and then really the win condition combining both doomgape and jarad. Once I aquire some funds. The changes will look something like 2 jarad, 2 doomgape, 2 lightning greaves and 4 green sun's zenith. I added in champion, and that was a brilliant combo idea. The idea behind keeping in two doomgapes and two jarads while adding the greaves is allowing me to swing for ten then blow up for ten more in a combo while still having the ability to get another doomgape. I have been playing around with some other combos, but this seems to be my favorite combination so far and with deadbridge chant jarad is a force with or without doomgape anyway.
