Deck Description

Most mono blue control decks in EDH rely on combos to close out games. This one tacks its win con onto every spell I play. It combines the best of both worlds; the ability to maintain steady card advantage, a "loaded grip," and to keep mana up for answers, while also creating a menacing board presence that wins games swiftly and consistently. What's more, the price of the deck can be halved without much loss in effectiveness if you exclude some of the pricier cards. The disadvantage to playing this deck is that your cards don't individually pack much of a punch, so your game plan revolves solely around Talrand. Fortunately for us Commander specific strategies, the new anti-tuck rule vastly improves our deck's performance and durability ( but don't get me wrong, I'm still very upset about the new ruling).

Considerations, borderlines, and To-be-testeds reside in the sideboard.

Hope you like the look of the deck. If there are any glaring defects, clear options i've missed, or even nifty secret tech, be sure to comment below.

Deck discussion for "Talrand's Loaded Grip" EDH

I've played Talrand a ton. Observations in general:

Mana doublers are the bomb. You're running Caged Sun, but I'd find room for Extraplanar Lens and Gauntlet of Power.

Though it's kind of a dick card, Quicksilver Fountain can win you games if dropped early.

Bident of Thassa and Coastal Piracy can draw stupid amounts of cards, repeatedly. Replacing stuff like Ideas Unbound with those made filling my hand a lot easier.

Polymorph is another way to turn a drake into Stormtide or Tidespout, and it can function as emergency creature removal if someone drops something you need to get rid of that you couldn't counter. Switcheroo is nice too.

Faerie Trickery makes a great counterspell.

I need to add a Foil to my deck, I'm stealing that one. Good call on Torpor Orb too, since none of your dudes have ETB effects. I'll try to find room for one.

Those all seem like reasonable additions so i'll respond to each.

I'd love to run extraplanar with snow islands, and/or gauntlet, but both those options are too expensive for me. I'm currently building four EDH decks, and this is supposed to be the least expensive.

Quicksilver Fountain is really interesting and I'm a sucker for Stax; I'll give it a try. My instincts tell me that torpor, opposition, and back to basics are enough, but nonetheless.

I'll probably add Bident. I talked myself out of playing it originally, don't know why, but i'll test it now.

I'm fine with polymorph, it was in first version to complement proteus staff, but i'd rather just run one. If the tuck rule hadn't been amended (I'm so salty) I'd definitely run poly.

Not a huge fan of three mana counter spells, but they may have a place. Only testing will tell.

Thanks for the suggestions!
