Budget: Dee-vine Intervention

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (107 cards)

Creatures (89)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

“Usually, the good Lord works in mysterious ways. But not today! This here is 66 tons of straight-up, H.E-spewing dee-vine intervention! If God is love, then you can call me 'Cupid'!"

— Sergeant Johnson, Halo 2, Outskirts (Legendary)

How to Play

This deck is slow to get the big guns out. That's just how Angels work.

However, I think this deck mitigates that issue nicely. Pacifism, Angelic Wall, and Angelic Page keep an opponent off your back early on. Guardian of the Gateless, Guardian Seraph, and Serra Avenger are solid defenders late in the game, especially against a horde of creatures.

Your late-game creatures are very strong! If you can stay alive, you have a chance. Oblivion Ring, Pacifism, and Brave the Elements are key here.

Archangel is not as wicked awesome as Angelic Skirmisher, but the flavor text ...

EDIT:

The sideboard contains angels that don't fit or are too expensive.

angels don't have to be slow this is my angel deck

u should add indestructible for your guardian of the gateless

I think that Guardian of the Gateless can take a beating ... I would mostly use her against weenies. She could kill a whole lot of tokens.

Also, indestructible tends to be expensive. Any suggestions?

I do think that Archangel may be redundant. dome cheap angel-tghemed enchantments might be nice.

*some cheap angel themed enchantment might be nice.

Man, how tired was I when I typed that last sentence? :)

I love it. Flavor for miles, I'm an advocate of budget (not always, but it resonates) and I agree that sometimes some inferior/overcosted creatures need to involved b/c of theme. I'm a sucker for using cards that are harder to play with for that reason, and b/c they are often discarded/overlooked by others.

Pacifism is one of my favorite white common Core cards, it is so Choice, and is esp. tasteful for this deck.

If you have money ... this deck can only get better.

Thinking of Angelic Destiny =).

And those overlooked cards ... are sometimes very powerful.

Angelic Skirmisher is freaking amazing! She should cost 3 times what she does.

Same with Serra Avenger. A freaking mini Serra Angel for 2 mana? It' Fo 1 less power and toughness, it costs 3 CMC less. And it can come in a turn earlier.

I was totally enamored with Pacifism, too, but I think that Recumbent Bliss is my new substitution for Pacifism. It requires one mana greater, if I recall properly, than Pacifism BUT you gain 1 life at the beginning of your upkeep each turn. It was included in a list of suggested cards for my deck and is now going to be one of my standing "go to" white cards!

There, I will use Recumbent Bliss and Disenchant instead of Oblivion Ring and Pacifism.

@NikkiPhoenixRising thanks for the Recumbent Bliss, I totally forgot that card, it's just what I needed for my Armageddon Wurms deck.

No problem, WLinezanelli :)

Knight - I was playing one of Jessie's black decks last night and sincerely wished I'd included a handful of Disenchants (I still beat him, mind you, but it was slow going for several turns ...)

Any suggestions for replacing Emancipation Angel or what to take out for some Divine Favor? One or the other, cause Emancipation Angel hits my lands too often.

When I was researching for my deck I was super intrigued by Serra Avenger (3/3 AND flying for only 2 mana) BUT I decided against using it because...it sucks to have to hold off before bringing it out. (My husband informs, "It's still pretty badass, though!) Just my inexperienced opinion.

I'm a big fan of walls, I've found, and that you have 4 flippin' FLYING walls, for 2 mana mind you, is spectacular. I approve. My approval doesn't stand for much, but, you still have it.

As an aside...long before I had any interest in playing I was an admirer of much of the artwork on Magic cards and this is a beautiful deck! Most white cards are really pretty, in fact, especially angel themes :)

you know i met one magic artist who lives in my town ( the one who drew serra avenger and dark confidant) he said all the magic artists wanted to draw angels or dragons

Man ... he must be a lucky dude! And I'm sure some artists live drawing counterspells, burn spells, and elves, judging by the art

The only Magic-related worker I met was a warehouse worker ... he was building a machine to catalog incoming cards.

Nice. You realize that it is slow to build, so you added cards that slow down your opponent.
The nonbasic land you are running is very themed (nice addition).
At first, Angelic Page seems weak, but her ability is very nice for mid game!
A decent Angel deck, that is cheap, is very hard to do. I think you pulled it off nicely!
I would one up your deck anyways, but the fact that you took the time to put down 75 Angels in the Sideboard gets your deck liked by me! :)

So I know this is going to be something that you thought of .. how about 2 Door of Destinies... taking out two guardian serif ... UNLESS you think the damage prevention is vital to the flavour of the deck as it does change allot. It goes from dangles defending your life, to angels calling for war as their ranks grow....

Do you think it works as an SB card, you know for game 2 vs more control decks?

As the angles realise that they need to charge the darkness to keep it back.

ALSO FOR THE SB
Devout Invocation
Defy Death
Decree of Justice

Thank you for the sideboard cards. It's always appreciated.

Door of Destinies is an excellent suggestion. Grievously, angels tend to cost too much for it to work well. Also, there are a ridiculous amount of cards competing for that slot ... on the other hand, there are a lot of choices for angels. If I made a deck pumping out angel tokens with moonsilver spear, angelic accord, and entreat the angels, it would be freaking awesome. It's a budget Archangel of Thune! Cloudshift would be awesome as well. Heck, maybe even legion's initiative.

I think that the damage prevention is fairly important in such a slow deck.

Budget be damned: Either Forcefield (Legacy) or Ajani Steadfast for the combo with guardian Seraph. Clunky, but hilarious.

0

In that case, why not bring sublime archangel, Archangel of Thune, and entreat the angels?

0
Posted 09 July 2014 at 14:45

Besides .... if you want to be mean: Artisian of Forms, Phantasmal Image, Fated Infatuation ... all targeting Guardian Seraph. Or if you really want to be mean, substitute Sublime Archangel for Guardian Seraph. Then attack with an unblockable creature. Oh the lulz!

1
Posted 09 July 2014 at 14:48

Artisan of Forms and Sublime Archangel in play. Fated Infatuation on Artisan, heroic triggers, turning Artisan into Angel, then Infatuation resolves, turning Angel copy into another Angel copy.

Swing.

Attacking angel gets +9/+9. LOLOL

Why not go with Serra Angel over Archangel? I know Archangel is a 5/5 but with Serra you get the same abilities and a 4/4 for two less the mana.

That is flavor text for old Serra Angel.
She embodies purity...even though her boobs are about to pop out of her shirt! lmao

Referring to 4th Edition picture of Serra Angel, just in case all of you perverts were searching it out!!! lol

Hey ... honestly, I prefer the Urza's Saga version.

Aside from that ... may I remind you that your wife's white deck got your best 20$ deck down to 4 life? I could drop a few more suggestions. =).

And for the record, Tormented Angel and Angelic Page are far more suited to preverts. =P.

I hate it. She got so down on herself...for having to ask me questions on how to play Magic...so she erased the deck. Swore to never play Magic again. It broke my heart and aggravated me. What was she expecting? She had played for less than 1 month, of course she wouldn't understand every card/rule.
