Deck Description

Golbin Chocolate Rain. Grixis Control with Jank strats. The flavour is derived from the Trespasser's curse (Cholocate) and the Hunted Phantasm (Goblin Rain).

The one two punch by itself hits the opponent for 5 life, while gaining you enough life to survive a combat round of goblins. The ideal situation is to have an Illness in the ranks already sitting on the field, that way the goblins splatter on the battlefield and trades you life without repercussions.

How to Play

A perfect run without anything going wrong would be to play Illness turn 1. Turn 2 play Blood artist or Trespassers curse. Turn 3 Hunted Phantasm with Goblin ETB triggers or death triggers, putting us up at 25 life and the opponent down at 15. Turn 4 drop Saheeli, duplicate the Phantasm, trigger for 5 life again, and swing for 8 unblockable damage. With their shock lands or fetches, this should be game at this point.

Of course, that is a pretty godly god-hand for all those things to happen without being countered in some way and getting those draws at the same time. Jank is called "Jank" for a reason. Not to mention if the Curse or Blood artist or Illness gets removed. So, to set-up success for our goals, we must ride into the mid to late game areas with Grixis Control.

Mainly, we want to defend ourselves and draw out the synergy.

Serum visions lets us dig deep. Remand and Electrolyze gives us control and flexibility.

Secondly, the strategy can backfire if you aren't sitting on a way to remove the pesky goblins.

Play the hunted phantasm too soon and you could get swung at for 5 every turn. Control the game with Leaks, Bolts and Inquisitions until you are able to effectively play.

Since you're playing control, we'll expect some life loss. Our synergy allows us to gain that life back, but if things are looking grim, dropping an Eternal Thirst on Phantasm or even the Blood Artist can allow us to gain back some life, and possibly put another threat on the board in a single turn.

That's the basics of the Deck.

Sideboard:

Aggro/Affinity/Infect - Pyroclasms/Ceremonious Rejection
Abzan - Grafdiggers/Surgical Extraction
Combo decks - Swang Song/Stubborn Denial/Mindbreak Trap/Grafdiggers
Eldrazi - Ceremonious Rejection
Burn - We play life gain/Swan Song/Surgical Extraction

I'm still fairly new to the Competitive Modern Meta and consider this a kitchen top deck. I plan on taking it to the upcoming tourney in my city and expect to get stomped. However, the tournament is a month or so away, so any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks Guys! :D
