Deck Description

Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.
Use your bank account on nearest MTG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!
The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)

How to Play

"You gotta heal, you gotta feel."

This casual deck tries to win the game by healing yourself and getting some mighty bonuses for it! As example, Ajani's Pridemate grows slowly, Ageless Entity grows fast and Sunbond makes anyone of your creatures into Ageless Entity!
Enjoy!

Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Healin' Feelin'

Fleece Ram, I want them.
They rock, and not many people realize that.
That Sheep can make Pridemate a beast, very quietly.

And Sunbond...new to me, that card rocks!!

Sunbond + lifelink creature = exponential growth = frigging scary beast in two turns

Love it XD now a deck based around the RtR Orzhov's guildmage XD

Sunbond + lifelink + Fabled Hero = retarded. I know Fabled Hero is $0.95 right now but its seriously over powered once you have these on it. Path To Bravery also is nice too and only costs $0.54 each. It gives +1 life for each attacking creature and +1/+1 to all your creatures as long as you have more than your starting life total.
I know they would make this deck more expensive, but maybe add them into the side board for people who want to try them out? :)
Awesome deck btw! I love lifelink more than you know!

Any reason you go with Unflinching Courage instead of Armadillo Cloak?

1
Posted 01 October 2014 at 23:33

Well, they're functionally identical. Either way, I suppose.

0
Posted 01 October 2014 at 23:59

I just mean in the event that you put on 2 Armadillo Cloaks, it would stack the life gain, but lifelink would not. Additional benefit of being able to put it on an enemy's beater while still gaining back the life lost should they attack you.

But not Budget.

My wife's favorite card is Goldenglow Moth.
Gain 4 life when you block with him :)
It is another card to consider, along with Accord and Wurm.

Have to say Northy, this is one of my favorite decks of yours.
Looks extremely fun to play.

And since so many of the creatures grow by means of +1/+1 counters, I would add some of the Abzan lords, specially the one that grants lifelink and either one of the two (or both) that grant evasion in the form of flying or trample.

Hey Northy ive got some money that im waiting to spend on something. I really like control and burn sort of decks and I was wondering if you could construct a budget B/W/U control deck form me. I have a little more healthy budget than most of your budget builds. I have 50 bucks ready to spend when i is finished. Thank you and good luck.

One quick question: why chastise and not condemn?

I remember cheap deck days, building a deck super similar to this with voracious worm at the core. Such a fun deck!

0
Posted 02 October 2014 at 19:05

Because I want the life. I don't want to give it to my opponents.

0
Posted 02 October 2014 at 19:09

Misread chastise- thought it said controller. My bad, brah!

Soul of Theros might be a fun end-game bomb. He is usually a game-ender in my eight-and-a-half tails EDH. Lifelink and +2/+2 on each creature means CRAZY life gain.

0

Soul of Theros seems really worthwhile.

0

Love it. Actually, now that I get to thinking about it, a budget series with each of the 6 souls would be really interesting...

0

Maybe, maybe... Except the Phyrexian one was really expensive, if I remember correctly?

0
Posted 02 October 2014 at 19:25

True, he's at $5.40 right now mid priced, so that could be difficult... for mere mortals...

Not for a Lord of War of the North, though!

0

Heh, Lord of War? Guess that could be one of my names. Though not sure why I named my account "NorthernWarlord"... Maybe I wanted it to be an epic name? Well... It doesn't suit too well for a person that loves peace and harmony...

You might consider feed the clan over heroes' reunion, it doesn't need two colors, and while it does need ferocious you'll have it no problem with the pridemates on the field, i would also switch two of the hopeful eidolons for two more soul wardens.

Point taken.

0

You can use the new ones from Khan: Feed the Clan which could work early and late game. I also really really like Pellaka Wurm from Rise of the Eldrazi as a gain life creature.

I had a deck like this, I still have the cards, but the deck is taken apart.

I loved the expression on people's faces when they realized what they had let this noob do. My ageless entity was 284/284, and I was at 360 health. Since I was a noob though, I didn't have any way for it to do the damage to the players.

The difference in my deck was the fact that I gained insanely stupid amount of life. You can take a look actually, I have posted that deck here.

0

Yeah. I can check it out.

0

When I wrote my comment, I had forgotten that some enchantments were missing since I last reworked that deck. So when I said "insanely stupid amount of life" I really meant the time when it had Boon Reflection and True Conviction in there.. You can see what I really meant by that statement.

1

Awesome deck as always. Maybe a Palace Guard? I know it doesn't gain life but its ability to take on all the opponents attackers could be nice. I tried making a budget deck, and was hoping you could check it out for me. http://www.mtgvault.com/biggeorge76/decks/children-of-the-night-budget/

Nicely done, Rhox Faithmender might be more expensive than looking for, but a fantastic addition to a life-gain deck.

0

That's true. Yes.

0
Posted 05 October 2014 at 08:04

Hmmm ... armidillo cloak's ability stacks with lifegain, right? So a pegasus would gain 6 life.

Apart from that ... wtf wizards. Rest for the weary was powerful, nut then you go and print feed the clan. Why!?

Anyway ... some form of trample would be a good way to avoid chump blocking.

Hi Northern,

I just wanted to let you know that I looked up almost all your decks. They are great inspiration overall, especially for people on a budget like me. This website got me building again, after a huge lay off.

I would like to invite you to comment on my most recent Standard deck if you don't mind : http://www.mtgvault.com/mightyseven/decks/that-was-qwuick/

To make the budget deck more budget-y, you could replace Nyx Fleece Ram with Ajani's Mantra. Same mana cost, same effect, but not a creature. It's (obviously) your choice, since mantra vs. ram is a double edged sword. Ram is a great blocker, but is vulnerable to more types of hate (creature hate, spot removal, AND enchantment hate).

0

Not the Ram!!! I love it.
It's so cute and sparkly!!

0

Nyx-Fleece Ram reminds me of Flufflepuff. That's one of the reasons why I love it too.
I can fit Ajani's Mantra into the sideboard though.
