Bant Bogle Artifacts

by Phibbonacci on 08 December 2017

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Instants (4)

Enchantments (11)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

This is a take on Bant Bogles that replaces tried and true Enchantments like Rancor and Ethereal Armor with cheap Artifact Equipments like Accorder's Shield and Bonesplitter.

I've sideboarded the Enchantments, just in case you run into Artifact Hate.

My desire is to make this worthy of running on a regular basis at my local Legacy matchups, but since I'm unfamiliar with that format I'm unsure of what to expect from the local meta.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

How to Play

Play those cheap Hexproof creatures early, like Slippery Bogle, Gladecover Scout, and Invisible Stalker. Then, throw cheap Artifacts on them like Accorder's Shield (which gives them vigilance) and Bonesplitter (which gives them a bite). Then, throw out Behemoth Sledge and Inquisitor's Flail for a GG.

Edit: Decided to include various Swords and Steelshaper's Gift, per recommendations.

Deck discussion for Bant Bogle Artifacts

+1
First things first: I don't know anything about legacy cards or legacy matchups, all I can offer you here are some modern-legal cardchoices. In my (modern legal) opinion artefact removal is a far more common choice for the sideboard, sometimes even for the mainboard, than enchantment removal.
Why do you use 4 Swiftfoot Boots, to protect Stoneforge Mystic? Because that's the only creature in here that doesn't have hexproof. The only equipment worth bringing into play with the Mystic would be Behemoth Sledge all other have cc2 or less. If you're looking for specific equipment then Steelshaper's Gift would be a cheaper (cmc and $) option. When using such search-spells then I would make sure you have something in your deck that it's either worth searching for or something that helps you in a certain situation (For example you don't draw Silhana Ledgewalker and your opponents defence is to strong on the ground. A single Neurok Hoversail might solve that situation). If you want to have some additional carddraw then Puresteel Paladin could be an option.
If you need some more fast-playing equipment then Bone Saw and Shuko could be of interest for you.
Another interesting option would be Dispatch as it gives you a strong removal. Also Etched Champion could be worth a look as he is another unblockable, untargetable creature.

Greetings
Muktol

These are all great suggestions, as usual. This deck is essentially my Modern Bant Bogle Enchantments deck, just with artifacts instead. I can wreck with that deck in modern, but I currently call this Legacy, because I added Stoneforge. Without Stoneforge, it would still be Modern Legal. Artifact hate is almost always in a Modern sideboard, but since this deck relies on so many Artifacts, it has honestly done well in my local meta, but it is definitely slower. The sideboard, once it gets included in game 2 and beyond is usually still not enough to wreck my game plan.

I think I need to treat the Stoneforge Mystic the way I would treat a Snapcaster, s/he will do her job and most likely die in the process. Also, keep in mind, when game 2 comes around, I know there's gonna be some artifact hate coming in, which is when I switch back to enchantments, which are in my sideboard.

Definitely gonna cut the boots, even though they add some haste to the deck. Also, Bonesaw was on my original list, but maybe it should come back... I might be trying to swing a bit too wide here with the Inquisitor's Flail.

Etched Champion is a great creature, but who to switch out for him... I'm gonna go with cutting the Gladecover Scout for now, even though she's a great 1 drop.

Star studded cast of creatures. But the equipment lineup not so much. Stoneforge and Batterskull is one of the most abusive card relationships in legacy right now. But it's so oppressive that I would give much respect if your trying to go your own way and not use it. There are five swords with dual protections and damage abilities if you wish. Don't forget the Jitte if your trying to stick to legacy. The new dowsing dagger could be an option considering your unblockable creatures. Elbrus, the binding blade and Stoneforge could result in a nasty finisher. Godsend is still an underappreciated utility equipment. Just some possible options.

Do you mean Stoneforge Acolyte or Stoneforge Mystic...?

Ahhh... I see... reduce the Batterskull casting cost to 1W, that's pretty busted. :D

Yes. A 4/4 vigilance life linker for 2 mana. Because the batterskull enters attached to a 0/0 germ token. The ability lets you drop it at instant speed. And it's uncounterable unless they stifle it or something.

It's even more abusive than that though. Batterskull has an ability that lets you return back to your hand for 3 mana. And of course Stoneforge mystic can still put it back on the battlefield at instant speed. So it's this reoccurring threat that can't be stopped. It's oppressive. I have won so many games winning through artifact destruction because they just can't catch me without mana.
