Deck Description

Grow big creatures with counters via enchantments!

How to Play

The idea is to target Akroan Skyguard with multiple enchantments to trigger his Heroic mechanism. Make him hexproof with Alpha Authority early and then start enchanting. Putting Forced Adaptation and/or Ancestral Mask on him will make those counters build up quickly. It's also a good idea to put Alpha Authority on Mesa Enchantress to protect your card draw.

Sigil Of The Empty Throne will give you a 4/4 flyer every time you play an enchantment. Once you build up enough counters, put that Armadillo Cloak on your beefiest creature and swing away.

To make this Modern Legal, I would probably include Rancor and Ethereal Armor as alternatives to Aura Shards, Armadillo Cloak and Ancestral Mask.

Any tips or suggestions are always much appreciated!

Cheers!

Deck discussion for The Enchanted Skyguard

The problem with auras and creatures that don't have hexproof from the beginning is that, if it get shot away, your opponent will always gain card advantage as he will loose one card where you will loose more. I would also try to focus on a few less different auras so that you increase the chance of drawing the ones that you need. Another option could be to include some tutors, or more draw, to search for the right cards.

There are also some 'standard' enchantments that many G/W (budget) enchantment deck runs that you should take a look at:
Hyena Umbra, Snake Umbra, Spider Umbra ...these not only buff your creature but also make it harder for your opponent to remove them thanks to the Totem Armor ability. Wont help against -x/-x spells but every 'destroy creature' spell will have e hard(er) time.
Helm of the Gods ...Basically Ethereal Armor number 5-8 with the advantage of not loosing the card when your opponent manages to remove its bearer.

Greetings
Muktol

Hey Muktol, thanks for stopping by. I agree whole heartedly with your first statement regarding hexproof creatures. I added Bassara Tower Archer for that exact reason. I couldn't find a better 1 or 2 drop with hexproof than that. The reason I went with Akroan Skyguard was twofold. Heroic mechanism and flying. It's too powerful (potentially) to pass up! Best case, i can make him hexproof by turn 3.

As for card draw, ever since i added Mesa Enchantress, I've steadily been able to draw in to the cards I'm looking for but tutoring would absolutely help. Any suggestions for what I could use there?

Thanks!

There are few budget friendly cards: "Lost Auramancers" (Slow and frail), "Plea for Guidance" (Powerful but expensive to play). "Idyllic Tutor" and "Enlightened Tutor" would be the non-budget versions.
Why not use "Silhana Ledgewalker" or "Gladecover Scout"?
"Blessed Spirits" could be a (slower) alternative to "Akroan Skyguard". It's advantage is that you can enchant other creatures and it will become stronger too. "Oath of the Ancient Wood" is an enchantment that does basically the same but you could choose which creature to put it on.

These are all great suggestions. Thanks!
I'll have to start saving up for those tutors though. Silhana is a great card but still less effective than Bassara Tower Archer IMO. I find the reach ability has served me very well in the past. That being said, I could do 2 of each instead of 4 BTA's.

Another option for tutoring enchantments is Sterling Grove; it gives your other enchantments shroud, & can be sacked to tutor one. Unless you intend to keep this deck intact permanently, though, Enlightened Tutor is probably a better option. I used Sterling Grove to good effect in an enchantment-heavy deck I ran a couple years back, but I was also running Sun Titan, which let me sac the same Grove repeatedly & tutor enchantments a-l-l day long. :)

Sun Titan with Gift of Immortality and Sterling Grove would be formidable! I'll give that a whirl.
Thanks!
