add in zhur-taa ancient for more counters on your hydras
zhur-taa ancient is very risky because it also gives your opponent a boost. I would have it side boarded for midrange decks. never play an ancient against control because they will sphinx for a million. also agro takes advantage of it allowing them to dump there hand. midrange is the best one to use it against
If you haven't seen the new journey into nyx hydras, I'd check those out. Though they might be a little slow for this deck, I'm a fan of the broodmother. Also, I'd try to throw a couple world eaters in the sb at least, it's monsterous ability is pretty good for removal.

No. Unfortunately I haven't seen any Hydras in the spoiler I am considering making this deck IRL though. BTW, what's your oppinion on Archtype of Aggression in this decik? Anyone can tell me what they think! My plan with him is that I needed something to give Hydras trample and Messenger's Speed didn't seem to fit the deck
I think it works. It's really either that or nylea and the architype is cheaper and has a lower cmc. You could throw in a rogues passage as well just for another means to push damage through.
You can also try adding Ghor-Clan Rampagers in there. Great as a creature (4/4 for 2RG with Trample) but it's greatest strength is it's Bloodrush Ability: For RG, Target Attacking Creature get's +4/+4 and Trample until end of turn. Great in a tough spot, and when you need to get some damage through too!
I was trying to go for something more permanent than something like a Bloodrush though. It was a thought though...
I prefer gruul charms to the archetypes personally because they never see it coming. gruul charms ftw :P

Jund Hydras would be pretty good with all the black removal out there, but I think that I'll get enough counters with all the lands in here. In reality I could go as little as about 20 because of my Elvish Mystics and Zhur-Taa Druids, but I have 24 for the extra X castings

You should also try putting in Nykthos, shrine to Nyx and replacing Zhur-Taa Druid with Voyaging Satyr, that way, if you have enough devotion, then you can activate nyxthos, untap with Voyaging Satyr, use 2 of the mana produced with Nykthos to activate it again, then case any of your "X" CC Hydras (Like Savageborn and Mistcutter) for a huge creature (I don't know how many times I've seen this used to great effect).Also, have you thought about putting in Polukranos?
Yeah, this combo is devastating, I was winning one time(was lucky) brought him down to one life, then he put nykthos on the field and made a 24/24 haste trample(he had doubling season) and killed me in one attack

No. If they then produced more mana, then yes. But they don't and the slots using Burning-Trees could be better used playing something like Zhur-Taa Druid

Free 2/2s plus free devotion for Nykthos. One burning tree allows you to activate Nykthos for free, so even late game with even moderate board position sets it off.
It's not free, it's still two mana. Yeah it pays for itself, but what does it do for the deck outside of that? You play it, set off Nykthos and guess what, now you have two mana again; assuming it's the only creature out. Or you get a 2/2 chump blocker? There's better for this deck. With Xenagos out you could make it a 4/4 with haste, but yet again, there's better for this deck.
if you're running a nykthos devotion deck the burning trees are amazing. turn 1 forest and mystic. turn 2 burning tree times 2 activate nykthos for 5 mana, play polukranos.. just saying
No Polukranos? No Nykthos? add them! other than that, i love this deck. If you like hydras you should check out my green red monsters deck. It is pretty much a hydra deck.
I , uh, have never played with a Hydra in my life and don't exactly know what Hyrdas there are..... Also R/G is THE type of deck I don't play much. I usually play black, so much black. But I'll give it a go. Also, what should I replace for these and how many should go in? Remember, this deck didn't get where it is by having just massive Hydras, I need some lower costing ones as well
ok, i'd ditch all 8 instants (polukranos will do the damage you need) to put in 4 Polukranos, world eater, a third Hydra Broodmaster, a third Kalonian Hydra, and maybe 2 Nessian wilds ravagers. I would also change the mana base to:3x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx4x Stomping ground3x Temple of abandon8x Forest6xMountain
also if yourte adding in the nykthos, i might suggest putting in burning-tree emmissary
for the extra devotion
Ok, recommending completely changing my deck there. I do like the idea of adding Nykthos though, so I'll add 2 in here. Also, being a legendary I'd only run 2 Polukranos
Yeah all that's too much.. Four worldeaters would just clog your hand, and there's better than ravager if you're not concerned with budget. Broodmaster is awesome, but once again there's better cards out there. Two's enough.
Ok i hear your reasoning, but i would run at least three world eaters. They are the best hydra in standard in my opinion, and they are 4 mana 5/5s, so you generaly should be able to play them turn three, and early game big guys is what this deck needs. The ravagers arent great, i agree, but with nykthos the broodmaster has SO much potential. i mainly would just recomend more polukranos and broodmaster, maybe even 3 nykthos. No need for burning tree or ravagers, though

I'd loose the shocks as you'll always have the mana for lightning bolts (due to the mana ramp) and to me the aim of the deck would be to focus on offense rather than defense. 3x chariots would fit well IMO.
Yeah, and why not replace shock or lightning strike, whichever you keep if you add the chariot, with lightning bolt (1 mana cost instant dealing 3 damage, and it won't make any difference in the deck cost)

Yeah. If Lightning Bolt was standard, the we wouldn't be having this conversation Also, Chariot belongs in the SB because I already have Archtype of Aggression. As for Shock and Lightning Strike, you ALWAYS need removal

hmm...for two, i'd get rid of a shock & a mistcutter. id get rid of another shock for a third (simply because w/nykthos, you can do way more than 2 damage with a polukranos)
I also might suggest Nylea, god of the hunt instead of archetype of agression? or maybe 2 nyleas 1 archetype of vice versa

ok cool.the deck looks pretty good now.one thing: i would consider 3 kalonian hydra, since pretty much all of your hydras get +1/+1 counters, you can just build up massive creatures w/ trample from nylea, and heck, double it again with Xenagos!

I like this deck and the name! the only suggestion I would make is maybe try Garruk, Caller Of Beasts for drawing up creatures but I imagine this deck runs just fine without it. Would bioshift be an annoying trick you could use? Especially if you sneak in a small hydra then bioshift all those tokens onto his head.
Yeah. Definately a trick to try, especially if you're using something like Savageborn that keeps on getting counters! Great card for the SB more-so than the mainboard. If you have an idea for what I should take out for some Bioshifts, then I'll look into it
I went ahead and built this deck! The only changes I made are to take the fogs out, up the lightning strikes to 4 in the main board, put a solidarity of heroes in, and used magma spray instead of shock. I also main boarded a bow of nylea, which is working very well!Overall, play testing has been very successful so far. Xenagos is an absolute wrecking ball in this deck too.
I have been considering moving Fog to the SB. It seemed good against Aggro and tokens but control just doesn't care. Still, Solidarity of Heroes could work well in here
Yeah I definitely see why you put it in there. I've found that this deck actually moves fairly fast, especially if you have even a little ramp and Polukranos in your hand to start. Overall, I'm very satisfied!

Just two suggestions:Prophet of Kruphix, and Kruphix himself. I run a Hydra based commander deck with the God of Horizons at the helm. With Prophet constantly refreshing your mana supply, and Kruphix allowing you to bank up lots of infinite mana, it makes X cost creatures even deadlier. All you'd have to do is sub out Stomping Grounds for the Blue Green Temples for that little blue splash.I know this is standard, but nothing puts people off more than activating Broodmaster's monstrosity with a lot of banked colourless mana, in commander the most I've managed so far is 3 turns to get 20 20/20 Hydras, along with their 27/27 mother, to make things worse I had a Crowned Ceratok which gave them trample, and Archetype of Imagination to give them flying. What more could you want?
Sounds good but splashing blue this late in the deck is really hard If I were to make RUG Hydras they would be straight in though
