Deck discussion for Super Budget: Academy Burn

It does look great!
I thought that maybe you could cut a bit of your creatures, so you could add some more instants.
Like, you could remove one Cyclops and one Dragonauts in order to add two Into the Roils or maybe even Electrolyzes!

Thanks! That might be a good idea considering i need more pump power for my creatures so I'll add Roils and something else to the mix :)

Very interesting concept, there!
Quickly looking over the deck...I might suggest to reduce the Spellheart to 3. That gives you 57 cards in the deck. From there...maybe add in 3 more Instant/Sorcery cards. And probably wouldn't hurt for those 3 cards to be 1 mana cards...that will help to quickly pump up Pike, Academy, Spellheart.

Here is a neat way you might could take this concept...self mill.
Here me out. Use cards like Tome Scour on yourself!

Turn 1. Play Mountain. Play Blazing Salvo (not sure how much it costs...but might consider Shock)
Turn 2. Play Island. Play Tome Scour on yourself. Self mill 5 instant cards.
Turn 3. Play Mountain. Play Spellheart
Turn 4. Play Island. Play Pike on Spellheart.

Now...since you milled 5 instant cards and played Blazing Salvo....Spellheart will be 12/3.
Mind Sculpt could work too!

Turn 5. Play Mind Sculpt on yourself...self milling 7 Instant cards! Now Spellheart is 26/3.

Anyways, you get the idea.
Good luck!

Oh yeah, if you do go with the Self Mill idea...you could use Instant/Sorcery cards with Retrace/Flashback. That way, if you needed to...you could cast those cards from your graveyard.
And Accumulated Knowledge would rock with the Self Mill idea.

That sounds like another good idea for another deck instead so thanks for giving me that idea! :) Only downside with this version is if i went self mill the opponent could cantrip me and ruin my tempo easier than if it was more control.

Also I'm not seeing the math with leaving 3 chimera's and having 3 open slot's so if you could explain that, it would be great xD

I wrote that when you had 58 cards in the deck (about lowering Chimera to 3 copies).
My bad. You now have 60 cards in the deck. When I suggested the change, you only had 58 cards.

My only concern now, with this really neat/nice deck...is your Instants cost so much mana. I see it like this, the lower mana the Instants are...the faster they will be played and put into your graveyard...which means, the faster they will pump up your Pike/Spellheart/Academy. However, the Goblin well help reduce the spells...so it isn't really that great of an issue :)

Speaking of the Goblin...all of your Instant spells, but 4, will be reduced by the Goblin.
Good job, there!

Why no a teleportal? for 2 mana it gives a creature +1/+0 and unblockable for a turn and if u put it on a cyclops it will buff him as well for his ability then play some one mana cost spells like titans strength on the cyclops and make him even ore strong!

I'll sub out brimstone volley for 2 teleportals but i won't include the titan's strength due to not having room for it. I'd rather have some board control spells or raw damage like barbed lightning and what not.

What about some self-mill to get those instant and sorceries into your graveyard?
Armored Skaab
Screeching Skaab
Stern Mentor
Tower Geist

I talked to Jessie about that and I figured that this deck is more control based and another deck similar to this would be better for self-mill. It's kinda a preference thing also. But a self mill of this deck would be pretty good too :)

I'd prefer nivix Cyclops because he has beef being him, he's easier to crash into them because its harder for them to trade with him.

The self mill idea was fantastic. Grats whoever thought of that. With that being said, I feel Thoughtscour would be ideal here. One drop instant that can get you a card and hopefully buff your creatures. If you can find the room, Delver of Secrets is always a great card in these decks. It's only worth a dollar too if that's not too much.

It's an idea to work on, I'm not so certain about delver though. Just doesn't seem to make it original y'know?

Understandable, a lot of decks use Delver, but there is a reason for it. He's just really good. Especially when you can beat them down with a Runechanter's Pike in the air.
