This deck focuses on +1/+1 counters and the synergy between creatures buffing each other.Combos:1. Experiment One + Abzan Falconer and Tuskguard Captian - With these creatures in play with the addition of +1/+1 counters all creatures will have flying and trample.2. Mikaeus, the Lunarch - +1/+1 distribution3. Ivorytusk Fortress - This creature allows for the creatures named above to use Outlast for +1/+1 counter and then untap during opponents untap step.4. Abzan Ascendancy, Hardened Scales and Abzan Charm - Many +1/+1 counters for all creatures as well as Abzan Charm allowing for card draw and exile of a creature with power 3 or greater.5. This Deck is nuts!! it would hurt to play!! I like the idea of it.
Duress is not standard legal...The deck seems quite mandatory, but I guess it's because of your card capacity... ...I have a couple of suggestions anyway... ...run Despise only in the sideboard(2-3 copies) & get your hands on some Thoughtseize... ...for your 4 drops in this deck, I'd drop all of them... ...try to get some Siege Rhino instead, it's pretty good for both offense & defense... ...if you play Abzan & you want the deck to be competative, you definiately have to get some Planeswalkers(Elspeth, Sorin, Garruk & such).......I have 2 Abzan decks right now & 1 of them is midrange-token based, so I guess it'd help to take a look at it... ...I showing you both anyway... :)Sorry if my critique "sounds" a bit harsh, but I can't help my cocky attitude... ;)Here's thee Abzan tokens deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/solemn-superfriends-of-abzan/...& the Abzan Planeswalkers deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/ajani-gatherer-of-walkers/Good luck, mate! :)
Cheers for the info, I do like idea of Seige Rhino (maybe swap Abzan Battle Priest for some sustain) and I definately considered Thoughtseize but I didnt intend for a solid Standard set up. However, I will place it in my sideboard.
Outlast is not a good strategy, mate... ...it's slow & when the board gets wiped out or most of your creatures removed by other means, you'll be at a great disadventage...
You know your right, I have taken into consideration some mana ramping options for some 1 drops to accelerate the flow of the deck. Also I figured Predator Ooze would pair well with this deck if I limit the outlast buffs I need to utilise rather than all of them.
I don't get it why you don't want this to be standard...
Because I dont play solely in Standard is their a problem with that? If people enjoy my deck build they can take it and make it Standard if they please I however would like to utilise other cards that exceed the Standard legality. Issue?
I just don't find it reasonable that if you have the cards to make it standard, why don't do it?..In Modern format, most of these cards are not worth playing... ...you'd be more succesful in Standard with this type of deck & would have no success at all in Modern... ...there are too many powerful & hardly beatable decks in Modern, that's why.......
Dont care, move on, I'm bored of trying to tell you politely that I'm happy with what I produced. I've even taken your advice and made the deck more efficient as well as pointing out that this deck can be used as a basis for other peoples deck ideas as inspiration. Your 'cocky' attitude and consistant rejection of my thoughts and ideas is not condusive as constructive criticism 'mate'. If I followed your advice completely I'd have the deck you provided above. I dont play solely in Standard and I understand your reasoning for making it standard but I have decided against it, if you have a problem with that then make your own and share it as a link on this page like you did and leave it at that....Fair enough you would think? But please do continue to tell me how my deck is useless in the face of other Modern decks. I do not play competetively, I play with a group of friends with no restrictions on legalities and I use this site to make decks and share ideas. It is so sad that it takes this type of reasoning to tell a fellow MTG player that your opinions on deck proposals are as valid as my own. hmm... ...that's not what I'd call trashing... ...it's not my problem either... ...me consistently commenting on your deck means I'm trying to help... ...what's in it for me to keep typing on it??Anyway, I got it be4 my 1st comment that you only play casually, I just don't find it fun to have a nearly Standard deck instead of either a Standard one or one that's far from being Standard legal... ...if you want to make a non-standard deck, you should use a larger veriaty of cards, but I guess most of your cards are from Khans... ...if I were you, I'd really make it Standard & participate in FNM at your local store... ...believe me, it's worth a try.......It's not negative criticism if I tell you that you'd be better off making it Standard, than Modern, whether you play only casually or elsehow... ...if you change your mind & decide to participate sometime, just give me a link somewhere & I'll help... ...either Standard or Modern(these are the formats I usually play).......
You see thats much better thankyou for those words, you have helped but that doesnt change the fact that the theme of the deck for me is Abzan focused with some small tweeks here and there, therefore not Standard, which is fine, If you have any comments on that I'm more than willing to listen. K then... ...at first, it's better to have Thoughtseize in the main deck & not Dispise & Duress... ...there'll be many times you can't get what you want with those or nothing at all, especially if you draw them in the late-game... ...1-2 Dispise & 3 Duress is what I suggest for the sideboard & 4 Thoughtseize for the main.......You could also use a couple Path to Exile in the main deck if you have 'em... ...may be Hero's Downfall... ...I won't be running mana dorks in the sideboard, nor the Bond-Kin & I'd use the Rhino mainboard... ...a couple Abrupt Decay for either main or sideboard would also be nice.......
That sounds good. In regards to Predator Ooze I looked and cant think of another creature that would stick in Standard apart from Experimented One. Might leave it for now not sure.
Experiment One is no longer Standard either, cuz Ravnica rotated out... ...I'd say Bloodsoaked Champion &/or Hooded Hydra... ...if you look up the decks I've sent br4, you'll find possibilities :)
mana base needs a little fixing. most common mana is green but all your mana is split evenly. drop a plains and a swamp or two for another 2 forests and maybe urborg if you have it. also if you're not worried about price look into the rare dual lands especially the scry lands. being able to fix your draws is a pretty valuable asset. also I would probably take out brave the sands or ivorytusk. they essentially do the same thing except one provides a body and the other allows for extra blocks. for what your deck does I think keeping ivory tusk would be your best bet. this frees up a little space where you can put in a 2-of like sorin or high sentinels of arashin. I would personally go with wingmate, but sentinels seems to fit better with your scheme. since you don't have a mana sink in here I would drop mystics and pump the birds to 4-of. ramp is not necessary when you only have a 5 drop as your top end but mana fixing is an issue as mentioned earlier. also frees up 2 more slots to help fill in your 2 drop slot rakshasa deathdealer does a lot of work for me in standard but fleecemane lion is nothing to scoff at either.
Cheers for the input, that actually helped alot. I have switched out my predator oozes for experiment one as it fits better with my deck and fixes the mana base as well. I changed the lands too, which has helped. I also added Sorin which i didnt notice the combo before, it works really well with the deck. Thankyou for your perspective.
