Deck Description

When I saw Chasm Skulker, I was like "yeah...lets build a deck around that."

CARD DRAW BABY!!!

How to Play

Draw cards, buff stuff, and win :D

Some fancy Combos:

1. Chasm Skulker + Any card draw = a big squid or a bunch of little squids. Very good fun
2. Chasm Skulker + Nylea's Presence = Give them an island, and then islandwalk ftw
3. Kruphix + Card draw = a lot of cards in your hand

There are plenty more, but just remember to draw to win baby!

Deck discussion for Chasm Skulking

I like it.
I just thought that could Hunter's Prowess have it's place here?

Good deck though, I really like Chasm Skulker.

Hunter's prowess can be good for sideboarding, but the lack of evasion makes things iffy with it.

I can't see Bident of Thassa being too useful with this list. I think you might be better off with something like Divination instead of Bident. I also would suggest looking for a few lower cost spells at 1 or 2. you're curve is pretty inverted right now - lots of spells that cost 3, 4, and 5. I've also been trying to build around Chasm Skulker - take a look if you've got a chance! Good luck!

I agree that the mana curve is leaning more toward the mid game, but Bident is good for card draw if the Horizon Chimera or any of the squiddies connect. If you are looking for a more reliable card draw, divination or Jace's Ingenuity would be better. Thanks for the tip!

Ordeal of thassa anyone? With the counters on chasm skulker you have a reasonable chance of triggering the sacrifice sooner than usual, plus you immediately buff the chasm skulker by +2/+2 before blockers are declared/damage is dealt.

Agreed. It's also an enchantment, so it can trigger Eidolon of Blossoms.

In the same vein, I suggest Font of Fortunes instead of Divination. Font can trigger the Eidolon and can be triggered at instant speed for 2 mana for (predictable) combat tricks, and the option to save mana for a counterspell if they don't block because of the possible +2/+2.

Stratus walk might be good to get Chasm Skulker past blockers, too.

Good spot on the constellation trigger. Also you get extra counters when attacking with the ordeal, which means more squiddies :-)

No Life's Legacy, you could sacrifice a big Chasm Skulker going into another Chasm Skulker?

Awesome idea.

I originally put Life's Legacy into this deck because I pulled 2 of them at a prerelease, but I am hesitant towards using it for now. I love the card, I am just on edge about it. Definitely a sideboard card though!

It is worth trying out, I play it with Scuttling Doom Engine dealing six damage and drawing six cards isn't bad.

btw could you take a look at my version and possibly suggest a few changes http://www.mtgvault.com/imementomori/decks/counter-manipulation/
would be much appreciated :3

I am primarily sticking towards a build that will stay within standard for a year or so. So I won't be adding in any Gatecrash for that reason. However I do like the idea, but Fathom Mage + Bioshift would be quite a hassle just to get the one combo off, and I feel that there are easier ways to get the same job done :3

Thanks for the input though!

mines less enchantment based
and if you draw 2 cards you only add one counter so dictate is just... pointless. im using bow for counters. cuz counters are good

I have a very similiar modern deck
http://www.mtgvault.com/moooooooo/decks/simic-draw-card-spam/

A few major discoveries I had in building and playtesting it:
-Hexproof is critical. Yes, Chasms have the nice islandwalk squid thing going on but that relies on them to *die*. You don't know pain until you have a 15/15 Chasm Skulking exiled. It means instant loss in a deck so reliant on one creature. Run 4 Simic charms and you'll still deal with this problem.
-Horizon Chimeras are expensive and usually the lifegain is too slow to even help. It took me a while to pick up on it, but they were practically dead cards 90% of the time so I finally cut them from my deck.
-When you have one giant creature, it's usually a struggle to actually attack. Against any deck with some creatures, your Chasm will be chump-blocked and then they'll swing everything else while it's tapped. I attempt to address this with Fling and Favor of the Overbeing in my deck. Your deck apparently relies on one of two Thassa's for unblockable. While Thassa definitely works here, you're going to need more than that-- running four of her would be an improvement to start off with.

Master Biomancer and Chasm Skulker are best of palls, just a suggestion. Nice deck btw!

I made a draw deck that had no way to attack really until Chasm Skulker came out.. I have finally beat people with this deck through attacking using Chasm Skulker and a couple times using his squidlings!
