Several themes, but all in the name of win conditions. Phylactery lich for a big creature, Gray Merch devotion, and Pestilence for easy damage.
Primarily, there's the possibility of a turn 1, 5/5 indestructible (Phylactery lich + Vault of Whispers + Dark Ritual). If that's not enough, the Grey Merch is looking for devotion, also gaining you life. Geralf's Messenger help with the devotion, plus I like the undying. Inquisitor's flail is a great double damage card, and helps the lich out. That's pretty much it, just some discard/lifelink/flying with the rest. Fun deck, usually works pretty well.
