Deck Description

Modern tribal zombies! 3 new Shadows over Innistrad cards sure add to the power of zombie decks. Relentless Dead, Diregraf Colossus, and Compelling Deterrence.

How to Play

Early game you can Inquisition of Kozilek or Thoughtseize to analyze their hand to see what kind of deck they are playing - aggro, combo, control? or you can Serum Visions to set up your deck.
Then start playing your zombies. Don't worry about playing Liliana of the Veil and discarding a card, such as Gravecrawler, because you can get it back with it's inherent ability, or Relentless Dead. And you might even WANT zombies in your graveyard to buff up Diregraf Colossus.

Deck discussion for World War Z

Hey there peeps! Zombies are one of my favorite creatures, and since I like Modern, I figured I'd give a shot at making a Modern Tribal Zombie deck. I know it'll get wrecked against decks like Infect, Burn, or Affinity, but it'll be strong against other decks such as Jund, Merfolk, or Lantern Control. Still, got any tips or advice? As always, they're greatly appreciated!

Zombies are cool lol. But how about cemetery reaper and lord of the undead? they buff other zombies and give you extra zombies.

Heh, I was waiting for someone to make a zombie deck with compelling deterrence. I can imagine them with no cards in hand and then you bounce something back and they have to discard it! Definitely a +1 from me. Too bad there are no good blue zombies out there. Any room for countersquall in the sideboard? I love countersquall. It's negate and 2 life =)

Thanks for looking! Good call on using Countersquall in the sideboard. Already replaced the Dispels.

On second thought, I like nihil spellbomb in the sideboard, but I'm not sure if leyline of the void would be better. tough call. instead of slaughter pact, how about disfigure or go for the throat? I would suggest victim of night...jund decks are using Olivia voldaren, but this deck already owns jund decks.

Hmmm. I don't know about Go for the Throat, since it won't hit Affinity, and I already have Huryl's Recall for that. But I agree. Slaughter Pact can be replaced. I think Victim of Night would probably be best since Disfigure cannot hit a lot of stuff.

Contrary to your first comment, prized amalgam seems to be a fairly decent blue zombie.

I love this deck! It inspired me to create one of my one. How would Undead Warchief be in the deck. It pumps up your creatures and makes them easier to cast. It could be a pretty good bomb.

Hey thanks for the advice. I had to look up Undead Warchief as I'm unfamiliar with that card, but I figured it would make zombies cheaper to cast since it has "Warchief" in the name. The only "Warchief" I know is Goblin Warchief haaaa. Anyway, it's a nice card, but unfortunately it won't help me cast half the zombies due to the devotion (Gravecrawler, Geralf's Messenger, Relentless Dead). But thanks for looking!

Oh, I forgot about their devotion. Never mind then.

Have you thought about adding Aether Vial?

Thanks for looking! Yeah, I am still considering AEther Vial. Only problem is that for it to be truly effective, I would probably need to add more zombies, which means cutting out ~8 cards (4 for AEther Vial and 4 for more zombies). Plus, Diregraf Colossus would not trigger since AEther Vial doesn't "cast" a zombie.
I'll have to keep thinking about it. Thanks for the suggestion though! I appreciate it!

Prized amalgam would go well in here. And just to perfect the undead theme, rooftop storm.

Thanks for looking! That's a great addition, especially since it helps feed the graveyard for Liliana's +1 and Diregraf Colossus. Hmm. I'll have to find room for him.
