Deck Description

As I am sure many of you have already hear, the modern ban list was just updated, these changes include:
New bans:
Birthing Pod, Dig Through Time, and Treasure Cruise
Unbans:
Golgari Grave Troll

Many people are upset about Birthing Pod being banned, which is understandable. However, I do think that the pod had to be banned in order to make the Troll legal. I mean, can you imagine Troll in a pod deck??
The whole point of this "Deck" is so that we can create a discussion here about the new banning a, and I would love to see what the Troll will go into, and if modern dredge can become a thing.

I would also like to touch on the Treasure Cruise and Dig through time banning, but I do want to keep the focus on the Pod/Grave Troll, as I think we all know what is going to happen with the bannings of cruise and DTT.
***************************************************************************

Just as a side question, who predicted that pod would be unbanned? Or Troll unbanned? A few guys and I were talking last week between rounds at a modern tournament about the ban list. Pod never came up in that discussion, but the troll we all decided would be fine to come back.... What do you guys think? Leave your opinions and comments in the comments section below!!

Deck discussion for The Banning of Pod: Discussion

I wonder, for these cards if 16 dollars was pre-banned price.
Meaning...now that people can't play them in tourneys...how much are they going to drop, if any?

Pod is gonna drop to like 3$ I bet... It was 15 before, this is the only place it saw play

And I need to get some grave Trolls before they go up to like 10$ or higher....

My place I buy cards from has
Birthing Pod---6 dollars
Troll---5 dollars (out of stock)

I bet people bought out Troll realizing it was about to see a lot more use in Modern.

Off topic: I think Goblin Guide will be reprinted very soon.
Maybe in Modern Masters 2.
The price is steadily dropping.
My card place is giving me 10 dollars less if I sale them 3 Goblin Guides compared to this time 3 months ago.

I just picked up 1 Golgari from Duel Deck Izzet for 5 dollars.
TCG Player has it valued at 3 dollars but has it selling at median price of 11 dollars!!!
Something is definitely brewing!

I think the hype is going to die down after the next major modern event, and if troll is good in modern he'll stay that price, if not he shall go down. I'm interested to see what brews he goes into... :3

He is so selective it's hard seeing him stay up there. Dredge will come back for sure, but dredge was bad against combo, and combo is hot right now

Exactly, but we shall see what happens in the tournaments... ;3

I just picked up a playset of trolls for 7$ each last night, and now they are going for 10$ each, and on amazon for 20$ each.... I think dredge has a chance to make a comeback.... I am going to be playing around with a zoo dredge hybrid with the troll, and vengevine

Well that should be interesting! Good luck brewing!

I think it will not make a huge difference because Dread Return is still banned in Modern.
If they removed that card from the banned list, than I would expect Golgari to be 25-30 dollars each.

Regardless, I bought one for 4.99.
Will wait and see. I will just turn around and sale it (hopefully) for 12 bucks or so...and spend that money buying some sort of silly casual/budget deck.

Right, Dread Return is an amazing card and I'm not surprised they did not take it off the banned list. Great speculation though, I can see it skyrocketing in price after the modern PT in February 6-8, great call!

The troll already skyrocketed in price... It is 15$ now, and yesterday it was 0.50$

I am seeing the opposite. I am seeing the cards go back down.
They had Troll (Duel Deck Izzet) at 11 dollars this morning at TCGPLayer
Now it is back down to 9 dollars.
Like I said, I will be happy if I bought it for 5 now and can trade it back for around 12 dollars.

They have the foils, on TCG going for 70 dollars.
My site I buy my cards has foils for 29 dollar, right now. But they are out of stock.
I bet my ass tomorrow they will catch on to the price increase and double the cost for the Foils.
Sorta wished they had 1 or 2 to buy right this second.
Again, I did at least buy the only normal version they had for sale.

I bet my ass, magically, that website that does not have any foils available at 29 dollars each will have 4 or 5 copies tomorrow for 50 dollars each.

I think these were all expected. Biggest difference was I thought they would unban bloodbraid elf and ban jeskai ascendency

Honestly I thought they would give dig at least a little more time to see if it was really gonna be used like treasure cruise was. I mean it gave combo/control decks a boost they needed, and now we are going back to pre-Khans where the decks that aren't midrange or Affinity are pretty mediocre. We shall see if this is actually the case, can't wait to see if people brew some sweet stuff for the next major modern event! :D

I mean twin and America control are still top teir decks. This hurts delver and scape shift more than anything

Twin stays fairly the same, but control hasn't really been an amazing deck in awhile, they are just too fragile to do anything most of the time. Also scapeshift was pretty good still I thought?

Yes but it was looking pretty imposing with dig through time. That does slow it down. Control has always been teir one, it's just if your deck can play around it.

Right scapeshift does loose a lot from this. Honestly control is great, I just don't think it is nearly as good as it used to be; post-Khans it just isn't the looming beast it was during the post-Born of the Gods PT era.

Hey guys, I'm gonna go out an a limb here and say the Fauna Shaman might get a little too good now..... She will be like the new pod??? Discard vengevine, go get grave troll, discard grave troll, go get wild nacatl, play wild nacatl and something else, get vengevine back, next turn dredge 6, get your troll, play your troll as a 6/6 or bigger, game won. Or just pump a grave troll with abhor Clan Rampager to trample over with a 10/10 or bigger on turn 4-5

Fauna shaman is so damn fragile, but regardless yes this will be the new list from what I see on several sites

So, I have found a loophole. Decks involving Graveyard shenanigans are my favorites, and I have built quite a few, and not released them because they were not good enough... I'm talking about Modern of course. I tried for months to build a dredge deck featuring imprint, and wasn't successful with it, About 6 months later, I tried to build a classic Bridge from below style dredge in Modern. I did stumble upon a way to make it work, but the strategy wasn't viable enough for me to continue the deck. Not only that, the deck was getting super complex, making most modern decks easy to play.... I never understood enough about dredge then or now to finish it.... I do know the substitute for dread return though, Demon of Death's Gate. While not nearly as good, it does get the job done in the end. Even though it does not have flashback, I figured you could start to tutor for it with fauna shaman or some other spell... Thats the part where I stopped, and I couldn't figure out. If someone wants to pick up where I left off, now that the troll is unbanned, I will link the list here:

Do you guys think that for a sacrifice engine that you could use devour from an un burial rights trigger? The tokens wouldn't have haste but there would be tokens and a big creature....
