At a sealed event I got both a Purphoros and a Master of Waves, and I wanted to see them work together. I had a young pyromancer and I saw he was casting elementals, which can be pumped up by master of waves. It is still a work in progress, I need one more master of waves and a young pyromancer... and I would love nivmagus to double up the young pyromancer and add to both devotions at the same time but... I feel the young pyromancer does not work well with the devotion needed for the MoW to be efficient... Not play tested it in this latest form, yet... I just acquired the cloudfin raptors and from all simulations I tried, they play very nicely... Note that this is my first deck in twenty years... so I am trying to improve it and I would love to get some feedback. It is to play standard and I know a few cards will rotate out soon (which is also why I am not rushing to get nivmagus... although it would fit awesomely in there, with both counters from spells and boosts from MoW).
the idea is to get the cloudfin raptors first, there is a high chance of having them drop in first round. The frostburn should come next, adding devotion to both blue and red and evolving the raptor. Or if the purphoros is not already in your hand, play the omenspeaker to increase chances of getting it quickly or to get the necessary lands.then, turn three might involve a pyromancer or a burn to clear the boardturn 4 is Purphoros coming, if turn 3 you put a hammer, he should be able to attack right then and there...turn 5 is master of waves turn...then next turns will be either another MoW or pyromancer and burns, fated infatuation to multiply the MoW, damage done by purphoros and improve the boosts to all elementals (which by now should be aplenty on the board) the bident can be used to draw more cards to have more chances to get what you want, the Nykthos is there just in case the balance of lands is uneven and you get some difficulty casting the fated infatuation.I am not convinced yet that this deck can win... but I would like to try some more... oh... and retraction helix can be used to lift the MoW and re-cast it... just to have even more tokens on the table...
