Why play firespout when Anger of The Gods is twice as good?

is this a real question?

Firespout has more utility. the pestermite player does not have to wipe his own board to kill theirs. Anger is not even close to twice as good.

Anger eats fields. Melira Pod is so resilient against Supreme Verdict with a host of undying creatures and Voice of Resurgence. Anger exiles, meaning Scavenging Ooze has nothing to feed on. It's brutally better at 1RR than at 1GR for Firespout.

Is this a real argument.

It's situational. Firespout is meant to hit the ground pounders while a flier on their side (pestermite) is untouched.

Anger of the gods does infact answer many decks in modern including melira pod which is always a difficult deck to handle if it has time to setup. It also answers to scavenging ooze.

In this deck player would be vest running the spout mainboard and siding the anger since it has a relatively good application and this deck runs few creature who would be killed by it.

I agree with Clawz, and I do think that anger has a place in Modern, but it is VERY clearly not twice as good as firespout. Modern is about utility, not about being afraid of one deck.

I see the utility, but the thing about Pestermite is that it has flash. Basically, it'll never be on the table when you want to cast Anger. It will only come onto the table during your opponent's end step right before you end the game. So, I get it, but . . . Anger's just so similar with a relatively large upside.

Anger of the Gods should definitely be ran over Firespout because of how relevant Melira Pod is a deck. You shouldn't be killing your own Pestermite with a board sweep anyway, it should be winning the game.

I think it needs some sort of "deals damage for each creature you control" card.

When you have infinite creatures, the combat step is more reliable than Massive Raid.

so... would a "untap all creatures + additional combat step" card work?

what about infinite creatures attacking tells you that you would need a second combat step?
