Deck Description

(Sideboard missing)

This is not your typical mono black deck.

How to Play

Sygg puts the opponent in a hard spot, because he either blocks and probably loses a creature or takes damage and we get a draw.

T1: always go for IoK or Duress if possible, since we are mono black.

Deck discussion for MBM: Mono Black Midrange

Even with a semi-low curve, 19 lands is very low for a build like this. The only decks that can really get away with 19 in modern are things like burn that have things that only cost 1 or 2. With 19, you're gunna eat mulligans and 1-land hands that will slow you down too much to justify the extra material slots. Some good ways around this are with fetch lands (thin the deck, but are higher price), man lands (mutavault, blinkmoth nexus), and cycling lands (barren moor). Assuming you can't afford fetch lands for the build, I would suggest going to 21 lands, 19 swamps and 2 barren moors. Another way to up the lands and not suffer for it is with discard effects to ditch them when you topdeck them, with stuff like pack rat. Pack rat is worth a consideration because it works beautifully with your necro boys.

Just my initial thoughts

Thank you for the comment! I'll test it. It is true that I've been doing mulligans quite often, let's see now.

Update: it's defenitely better. Less 4-mana mulligans, less 1-mana mulligans, less dead topdecks, and in return I sometimes miss a 3rd drop. Thank you!

You should run Night's Whisper over Sign in Blood because of the black devotion it costs. Blast Zone can't tap for black, but it can tap for colorless so you can still cast Night's Whisper.

Will keep in mind if Blast Zone goes mainboard! Thanks!

If you need to get key-cards in your hand then Read the Bones could be of interest here. It costs 1 more mana than Sign in Blood but allows you to scry 2 before you draw 2 cards.
Smallpox could also be an option as removal as it attacks all resources available to players. You have a way of playing around the sacrifice part, but not the rest, but you can decide when to play it and thus are better prepared for it's effect.

Appreciate the comment!
Regarding smallpox, I love the card and tested it a lot. It slows my game down too much, but it is still a good sideboard for control :)
