Deck Description

Master of Cruelties is my all-time favorite creature, sadly, as in the case of most game winning creatures, he's a big target and an expensive one at that. I decided that if Rakdos was going to make it into the mid game in order to play him it needed a fast crippling early game that could still protect him in the mid and late game. Welcome to Killing Strangers!

How to Play

Turn 1 discard. Easily one of the most powerful plays in Modern. Hit the card that's the immediate threat, not the card that's gonna hurt 4 or 5 turns from now, by then they won't even have a hand. Also, remember this is Rakdos, the most elite creature killer, so you likely want to use targeted discard on non-Creatures, we have Bolts, Commands, and Terminates for that, along with top tier blockers.

After we've broken off the very cards that made them keep their opening hand you want to drain the remaining cards ASAP. Your Blightning hits 2 cards and you can bleed their hand in no time, especially since most players will realize the threat and try to quickly play the cards they do have before you get rid of them... suckers. Once their hand is depleted 2 things need to happen. First you want to play Shrieking Affliction to put the hurts on. Second, you begin the real dirty game... during their upkeep, after their draw, before their main, Funeral Charm/Kolaghan's Command! Tey'll have to discard whatever they just drew unless it's instant speed. This is is nearly an extra turn play. Instant speed discard is so powerful! There's a good reason why it's so hard to come by.

The act of draining them and further snuffing out any attempt they make to gather a hand gets you further into the game faster than them while simultaneously eliminatIng threats and dealing damage all along the way. This means we get to cast our dynamic duo fully confident that they'll not be stripped from us like all great Creatures are. In reality, the creatures are there to help speed up the win more than anything, 2 Shrieking Afflictions on top of your Bolts, Commands, and Blightnings makes for rapid life loss itself.

The side board isn't too fancy.
-Pharika's Choosen is the shut down to anyone who plays big things early like Eldrazi or Delve.
-Anger of the God's is a nice wipe, mainly for Token decks that are able to sneak in the troublesome Hordeling Outburst or Lingering Souls.
-Slaughter Games tears down any combo deck.
-Vampiric Link is another help against any big Creature deck. It's actually quite funny to let them go ahead and play their big 8/8 and then just Link it.
-Crumble to Dust is somewhat specific but a HUGE help again anyone running the urza land combo, which means you permanently drop their Mana base more than they can deal with, it's a win.
-Rakdos Charm fixes Graveyard problems and Artifact problems on the spot. It also helps for the few who play infinite creature Combos.
-Angrath is phenomenal against anyone who fills their own Graveyard. He also makes opponents reconsider playing those big nasty Creatures.

I'm always open to input and suggestions so please let me know if you think I could improve something!

Deck discussion for Killing Strangers

As well versed as the Rakdos colors are at killing creatures, Lightning Strike is terrible in modern.
Doom Blade, Victim of Night, Dreadbore, Go for the Throat are all better, even as all have drawbacks.
I do understand the desire for Pain Magnification synergy, but the reality is, as you put it, that they will recognize the discard aspects of your deck and dump their hand. 3 mana for one or two discards, even at instant speed is not what you'd call good. Not next to Funeral Charm anyways.

Paying 2 mana for having them discard a single card is quite bad in most cases, Wrench Mind is way better than Distress UNLESS you see a lot of artifacts running around.

Shrieking Affliction.... have you tested it? Because even in decks that play lands, dsicard and 6 removal pieces the card is sometimes a blank draw.

Hitting 5 mana with 20 lands seems tougher to do than a deck can bear.

Perhaps if I replaced the Pain Mag with Kolaghan's and the Strikes with Funerals?

Alesha IS great. I've got her in a Mardu Warriors build for commander. I thought about using her for Master but the point of having just the 2 Creatures is that they are quite hard to kill. Master wasks away from 99% of combat encounters and passes the bolt test. My other Demon is a chunky mofo at 6/6. Alesha would probably get zapped before I could use her
