WWWHHHAAATTT WHAT WHAT!!!? How is this not a NORMAL thing like sol ring in EDH/Commander. Ridiculous =0

Because as long as you have the correct amount of colored mana Sol Ring's mana isn't conditional; Planar Gate is advantageous ONLY if you are playing a creature spell. It also costs 6 to cast compared to Sol Ring's 1.

That being said, it's effect can be more powerful than Sol's Ring's in the right deck
