Deck Description

Do you want to play Commander without spending hundreds on a deck? Do you like drawing cards? Do you like no maximum hand size? Do you like using card draw to creature massive threats? Do you like a flexible Commander that has interesting synergy with multiple strategies? Do you like having a bit of a political high ground? Then let me introduce you to Alrund. Alrund can help guide you through the blind eternities, scouring the lands for knowledge. He can see into the future, using his gifts to help plan for any outcome or obstacle in your way. Oh, and he can grab the ball, run with it, and dunk it like Jesus Christ Sports-Star. He's even got a funny bird and tattoo! So, let's follow a potentially blind and insane man, hopefully to victory and not off a cliff.

How to Play

The TL:DR is draw cards. Draw cards. Draw cards. ALLEY OOP AN ALRUND. Draw cards

But, the more detailed version is that Alrund is an excellent budget option that encourages a powerful card draw engine on one side, while actually setting up your hand on his bird side! He's an incredible God that gets stronger the larger your hand size and for each foretold card you have, meaning you can feign having answers to problems constantly and keep your opponents wary. Cards like Saw It Coming and Depart the Realm are perfect for us, giving us answers to problems and stacking up our cosmic commander. In addition, we run Barrin and Candlekeep Sage to help our bird side net even more value, since it wants to be cast multiple times.

Other than that, we use strong card draw to help keep our hand stacked, such as Diviner's Portent, Howling Mine, & Kami of the Crescent Moon. Actually, some of our draw engines actually benefit all players, allowing us to try and use it as leverage to stick around. On top of the, we run control elements like Resculpt, Negate, Imprisoned in the Moon, and Confounding Conundrum to stall our opponents until we're ready to strike.

To finish off games, we mostly rely on Alrund with a massive hand size. However, we actually have a few contingency plans. Commence the Endgame with Rogues Passage are a devastating pair, while Sturmgeist can fly over and end someone on a whim. Cosima can grow to epic proportions, Chasm Skulker can unleash a tidal wave of squids, and Ominous Seas are great at going tall and wide! If creatures are a bit too challenging to finish with, a personal favorite is Folio of Fancies, which helps our plan and can actually empty libraries fast!
