Deck Description

Is EDH too expensive for you? Wanna play a fun deck that doesn't cost a fortune? Then allow me to introduce you to....Poor Man's EDH. For under $75 (or in this case, around) you can own a cool, powerful, and fun EDH deck that isn't too limited. Whenever any Red and Black legend is released, I always want to make them some sort of commander. The Minotaur from Amonkhet I felt like wasn't justified becase the amount of Minotaurs in the game is so few. So....when the beautiful Scorpion God was revealed, I was incredibly excited. Basically a Wither commander, the Scorpion God has so many synergies with so many cards, and I honestly feel like he's easily the coolest card in the set. Plus, he can get past the Commander mana cost by going into your hand at the end step! So, just because I personally cannot go without making him a deck, I went out and made a deck just for our new friend. Enjoy!

How to Play

Long ago, in ancient Amonkhet, Nicol Bolas reshaped some of the plane's most powerful beings into bringes of the plane's end times. Bolas had a plan to craft himself a powerful immortal army among the plane's strongest warriors to ever live. Now, as the plane crumbles to the power of the God-Pharaoh's corrupted Gods, you seek an opportunity to wield the power of one of them. Although the God doesn't respond to you, it's master gladly offers you what you desire, but only if you will bend to his will. Now, with the mighty Scorpion God at your side, you seek out other Planeswalkers, following your orders to destory them before they can become a problem for your new master.

The Scorpion God's deck is all about -1/-1 counters. Your ability to create them and generate abilities around them is unmatched, and to make matters worse for your opponent, these counters are a great way around creatures with indestructible. Getting these counters out is easy. With all sorts of creature abilities at your disposal, you can dish out some serious counters in the form of combat damage. With Wither, your creatures deal damage as -1/-1 counters, as well as with Infect, except with Infect if you deal the damage to your opponent...they get that many poison counters. Ten poison counters and it's game over. With these abilites, you make your board presence known with a cast of a creature or two. Which may lead to you being targeted...but who cares when you can kill off cards like Avacyn?

To make your deck even better, you can recur your creatures and get the bonus of -1/-1 counters. With the ability Persist, you get your creatures back if they die without a -1/-1 counter, but they come back with a -1/-1 counter. The best way to get this ability is with Cauldron of Souls. You tap the Cauldron and pick any number of creatures to get Persist until the end of turn. Not only does it bring your creatures back, but you can bring back enemy creatures with a -1/-1 counter as well! With this ability, you can easily reverse a board wipe like Wrath of God and turn it for proit! Which leads us too the star of the show.....

The Scorpion God is a force to be reckoned with. As a 6/5, he's already intimidating. However, for 1 colorless, 1 red, and 1 black mana, he can put a -1/-1 counter on another creature. As an added bonus, whenever any creature with a -1/-1 dies, you get to draw cards! With a powerful draw engine that's easy to activate, you should have no problem digging for cards like Black Sun's Zenith or Kulrath Knight, two incredibly powerful cards that can turn any game around in a hurry. One of your more interesting options however is Hex Parasite. If you can get out a Rogues Passage or a Whispersilk cloak, it can quickly turn into a game ending terror. For X and either 2 life or 1 black mana, you can remove X counters from a permanent for Hex Parasite to gain +X/+0. What makes this such a terrifying card? Hex parasite can remove any counters, including loyalty counters off of planeswalkers, or even better, -1/-1 counters off of creatures. You know, the thing you spread the most with the greatest of ease? After taking just a small look into the potential of this deck, can't you tell why the Scorpion God is the God-Pharaohs favorite God slayer? Since you've made your deal with Bolas, now you can help others see the futility in defying the God-Pharaoh!
