Deck Description

So....for a good bit of time now, I've seen some Tortured Existence decks running around in Pauper. At first, I didn't get the point. I thought, "It's just some weird toolbox deck, why do people like it?" After seeing plenty of Abzan and a few Sultai decks running this toolbox card, I decided to try it myself. Now, I can finally see why people like the deck. It runs plenty of tricky one-of cards that can do so much over a long game that it could possibly be the Birthing Pod of Pauper. Honestly, it's a fun deck that took a bit for me to come around to, but am I glad I did. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

How to Play

The beauty of Tortured Existence is that it's a card that allows you to pull out exactly what you need when you need it by repeatedly bringing back creatures from the grave. This list can run A LOT of different cards in it, from Abzan with Auramancer and Quasali Pridgemage to Sultai with Mulldrifters and Probe, but this list is running Golgari to keep our mana base simple. Tortured Existence can help you stick around in a game forever by discarding and dredging Golgari Brownscale, or slowly kill off your opponent's board with Fume Spitter or Death's Head-Buzzard. Honestly, you have a variety of way of killing your opponent, you just have to pick which fate your opponent will wind up with. Do you slowly pick out their threats with Thoughtpicker Witch straight from their deck while you slowly beat them down with a Satyr Wayfinder? Do you use Battlefield Scrounger to repeatedly bash their face in for 6 with your seemingly endless threshold pumps? Do you lock down their deck with Spore Frog while your Stinkweed Imps eat away at their life? You have plenty of good choices, it's all the matter of finding one for the game you're playing.

SIDEBOARD:

Three cards in here are for a toolbox combo that is meant to finish your opponent when they don't have a board. Bloodflow Conoisseur, Ivy Lane Denizen, and Safehold Elite form a powerful loop for an infinite/infinite Vampire that ends the game when it gets through. Thankfully, you can also throw in Evincar's Justice Death's Head-Buzzard to clear the board and get to that point. Meanwhile, Brindle Boar helps you outlast burn by giving you ridiculous sustain, and Faeire Macabre is good against any grave based deck. Choking Sands shuts down Tron, and Ghastly Demise almost destroys ANY creature in this deck!
