Deck Description

The first deck I'd ever built was a Gruul deck. Its been gathering dust for years now, so I decided to make it good again!

This deck is kind of a mix. The deck uses mana ramp to do fast turn 2 and 3 aggro, but also has bigger creatures to use is mid range if needed.

The sideboard is actually a "maybe-board" of cards I own that I'm not sure if I'd like to use. I'd love some feedback on them!

*This deck doesn't need to be modern legal. I strive for it to be, as that's the format my friends play most, but one or two illegal cards won't matter. If you've any fun ideas, let me hear 'em!*

*EDIT* If anyone is interested, the meta I face is: Merfolk, Grixis control, Grixis Delver, Jund, Affinity, Tron, Zombies, and Exalted.

How to Play

The basic strategy is this:
Turn 1: Forest then Arbor Elf.
Turn 2: Forest, then play Utopia Sprawl. Using Arbor Elf, untap the land and play Burning-Tree Emissary then Reckless Bushwacker.
Turn 2 Alt: Make Utopia Sprawl's mana green and play Strangleroot Geist.

Then, use walkers to generate lots of tokens, or mana pump if needed.
Finish with Garruk's trample, Polukranos' monstrous, and Dragonlord Atarka's flying
Or, use Nykthos and the walkers' mana on Kessig Wolf Run.

Deck discussion for Modern RG Aggro Ramp

Goblin Bushwhacker is arguably better than Reckless Bushwhacker as you get to control the kicker effect easier than the Surge effect.

A BoP or two could help get the bigger stuff out more reliably. I run a Ponza deck that runs 4 Arbor Elf, 4 Utopia Sprawl, and 1 Birds of Paradise, although I've seen Ponza builds that run 2-3 BoP's.

Stormbreath Dragon is worth considering as it is naturally resistant to a large amount of targeted removal played in Modern. Protection from white means no Path to Exile nor Anguished Unmaking. 4 base power means it must be double bolted (Lightning Bolt or Lightning Helix). 5 cmc means Abrupt Decay and Fatal Push can't target it.

Taking from Ponza again, Inferno Titan is a beast. 6 for a 6/6 with fire-breathing and it does 3 damage divided as you choose (creatures and /or players) when it enters the battlefield or attacks. You already have the ramp to get Titan out on turn 3.

A lot of Ponza decks run Bonfire of the Damned, but I didn't like it, so I switched it out for Mizzium Mortars. You can Overload it as early as turn 3 with the ramp you have and 4 damage kills most stuff in Modern.

Last suggestion from my Ponza deck (I say "my Ponza deck" as I don't run a conventional Ponza deck). I only run 3 Titans, with 1 Chandra Flamecaller taking the 4th Titan slot. Her [+1] creates two 3/1's with haste, allowing her to deal almost as much damage as the Titan, but it's her [-X] that made me include her. An extra, more manageable sweeper is a welcome addition. Her [0] is almost never used, but it's nice to have draw in a deck like this.

Thanks for the reply!

I like goblin bushwhacker! The kicker is easier, and I can pump my creatures even if I don't need the haste. Ya, I'll definitely use him. Though, I'm worried the RR makes the Burning-Tree combo falter

Stormbreath Dragon is quite nice, and I could easily take out Polukranos for him. Luckily, my meta doesn't have path to exile to worry about. More terminate and bolt. Thrun holds up better there, but the flying and built in haste is quite tempting. I'll try one anyway if only for the monstrosity effect

Inferno titan is an interesting idea. He could replace Atarka since he comes out faster and still clears the board. I'll have to play around with him sometime. Only reason I like Atarka or Bogardan Hellkite is the flying. I've got a lot of creatures in my meta... Still, Titan can at least get a bolt off if he's terminated. I'll keep him in mind.

Bonfire of the damned doesn't really work for me, as I have to deal with counters in my meta. Banefire is much safer there. Mizzium Mortars is a good idea for a world effect. I'll definitely sideboard that.

As for chandra, I'm not super sold on it. The RR is harder to make here then GG, and Garruk, Primal hunter makes permanent blockers and draws too.

It dawns on me, I should add my meta to the description... I'll do that.
