Deck Description

I've always thought the 3 dragons in this deck work well together. I know the initial thought of what planeswalker to use for a Dragons deck is the various versions of Srakhan, especially Sarkhan, Fireblood and maybe Sarkhan the Masterless. But these two Chardras actually function better in this deck than Srkhan can.

I have made a Pioneer version of this deck. That list is here:

How to Play

Buy time with removal and hand disruption until you can cast your Dragons.

The mana rocks help us play the Dragons early. Mind Stone can cantrip itself later, but the Talisman is our best turn 2 play as it allows us to keep up Bolt (or Push post sideboard) or even Inquisition (or Thoughtsseize) the turn we play it.

The Chandras provide both ramp and card advantage. They also serve as secondary win conditions (their ultimates and ping damage).

Stormbreath Dragon is our most resilient threat. As it has a mana value of 5, it dodges removal based around mana value (Bloodchief's Thirst, Fatal Push, etc), and it has protection from white, which protects it from cards like March of Otherworldly Light. And at 4 Toughness, it takes more than 1 burn spell (in most cases) to be killed.

Glorybringer can be exerted to deal 4 damage to a non-dragon, meaning you can play it, attack, and still kill something on the opponent's board.

Thunderbreak Regent may not have haste like the other 2 dragons in here, but it does punish the opponent for targeting your Dragons. It's especially good for when the burn player needs to target a Dragon with 2 burn spells to kill it.

Deck discussion for Chandra likes Dragons?

I've always been a fan of Sweltering Suns over anger of the gods mainboarded, but that's me. Cycling to be ok with control over the grave hate. There aren't really that many critter grave decks working in modern these days, according to my generally quick research.

Just an observation, other than that I love ideas like this. Stormbreath's pro white is such a delightful thing to exploit when you realize that makes it immune from a good portion of regular removal.

I have a preference for Anger of the Gods because of the exile clause, been caught out too often without it. But I agree that the cycling of Sweltering Suns is great for a mainboard card.

I find it funny that not many people are running Stormbreath Dragon these days, especially with the recent "good" targeted removal being in White, specifically March of Otherworldly Light, Prismatic Ending, and Leyline Binding.
