Deck Description

Trying out a Titan-less, Dragon reliant Ponza Build.

How to Play

Very similar to most Ponza builds. Disrupt the opponent's mana with Moons and land destruction while ramping into threats. The difference here is relying on the more difficult to remove Stormbreath Dragon over the traditional Ponza threat Inferno Titan. To help achieve this I've also increased the number of Primal Command to tutor up the Dragons while also providing other main board options like lifegain vs RDW.

Deck discussion for Ponzabreath Dragon

I highly suggest that you add more ramp to hit 3 mana turn 2. 8 ramp spells is a little bit low. Ponza work at best when you can drop blood moon at turn 2 constantly. 10 ramp spells is required to do that at 75% of time. 9 ramp at 70%. Less is less. Otherwise you will miss your turn 2 too often and good deck will make you pay for that.

I'm aware of the common need to play 10 mana dorks in Ponza for the consistency. I've actually been having success with only 9 dorks (4 Arbor, 4 Utopia, 1 BoP) and managed to top 8 at a PTQ last year. By dropping Titan (6 mana) in favour of Stormbreath (5 mana), I feel I can drop the final Bird. After testing this a bit, I'll see if I need to bring the Bird back in.

Think you'll bring back the bird. I've a green deck with 4 elf and 4 utopia. The first of them often fall to Bolt, kozilek, thoughseize, etc. The 9th dork is a cannon fodder and not just for constancy. Feel like 11 cards with 5-6 cmc seem a lot if ramping is harder. Also, what about cut 1 baloth and add 1 huntmaster ?

Good luck and happy testing.

Been thinking about Huntmaster too. Will need to try get my hands on some. Maybe when I order my Trinispheres for the sideboard.

Do you ever try a Jund LD ?

The more colours you play, the more Blood Moon hurts you. Ponza is less about to land destruction and more about mana disruption while ramping. Kind of how blue uses counterspells and black uses hand disruption to hinder the opponent, Ponza just does it in a more permanent way.

The problem with pure LD is that the opponent manages to get cheap stuff through. Your cheapest LD cards that don't hurt you too are all at 3 mana, some requiring double of one colour (Molten Rain and Rain of Tears come to mind). However, I am wanting to design a list that runs 4 Trinisphere to make those 1-2 lands that slip through all the LD useless :P

So, to answer your question, no, I have not.
