Deck Description

So, I was looking through some little used Ritual effects and came across one with large potential, but with an equally large drawback: Mana Seism. After a quick Gatherer search, I stumbled across two 4 mana cards that can mitigate the drawback: Faith's Reward and Splendid Reclamation. Splendid is the better of the two for two reasons: 1) Reward only returns lands put in the graveyard this turn, while Splendid returns all lands, not just the ones sacrificed to Mana Seism. 2) Green is best at ramping out lands, making Mana Seism better.

Splendid also returns any fetch lands already used. And any lands discarded to other effects, like Cathartic Reunion.

*Edit 28 July 2017
Decided to go with a high lands count, a few looting effects, and a few play extra lands cards. With landfall triggers as the main finisher. This is an extremely rough draft and will probably be edited as time goes on.

How to Play

Loot effects to draw into a landfall card, Splendid Reclamation, and Mana Seism. Don't be afraid to discard lands to the looting, Splendid Reclamation will put them onto the battlefield.

Once you have a landfall card out, and minimum 3 lands, with one that can make {R} and another that can make {G}, tap all your lands for mana, then play Mana Seism to sacrifice all of your lands, followed by Splendid Reclamation to return them all. Naturally, the more you sacrifice and return, the more landfall triggers you'll get.

Crucible of Worlds / Ramunap Excavator + Fetch lands guarantees at least two landfall triggers a turn. The Gitrog Monster and Azusa increase this number.

Deck discussion for Splendid Mana

I think the best option would be to use either an Eldrazi titan, more then likely Emrakul the Aeons Torn, or just play a Valakut idea, saccing all of your lands to use Reclamation to flood the board with them and kill your opponant. Being in red makes it easy to get the card draw and discard to fill your graveyard between Cathartic Reunion and Faithless Looting etc.

But then again it may just be better to play actually Scapeshift, but it could also be right to play both and have different ways to kill your opponant.

Did the math. To cast Tentacruel this way, I'd need to sacrifice 11 lands. Tap all 11, pay 2 for Mana Seism, leaving me with 20 mana (11-2+11), spend 4 on Splendid Reclamation to mitigate the loss, leaving me with 16 mana (20-4) to cast Tentacruel. Not sure this is viable for a whole deck strategy.

I've toyed with a Dredge Valakut hybrid idea (using Mystic Retrieval's flashback to return a milled Splendid Reclamation), but it was less consistent than Scapeshift.

Hey I just made an account to try and help. I'm still new at magic but thought I could help. i thought crucible of worlds could help you with a way of getting your lands back at a consistent rate, even after using your splendid then you still have the ability to get a land back. What are your thoughts on that?

Crucible of Worlds and Ramunap Excavator are strong contenders for inclusion, as is stuff that lets me play multiple lands a turn. I do like upping consistency. Crucible and Excavator also help a bit if Splendid Reclamation gets countered, exiled, etc.

Personally, I feel you should focus down on some landfall effects. Sacrificing a ton of lands to play something with a great landfall effect, and then using some of that leftover colorless mana to help pay for SPLENDID RECLAMATION sounds.... splendid.

I may work on an idea like this on my own and get back to you!

Landfall seems the best idea at the moment. Ob Nixilis, the Fallen and Retreat to Hagra seem to be the best at the moment, especially Retreat to Hagra for the life gain to offset the life loss of fetch lands.

What type of deck are you trying to make modern, legacy or vintage? Type of deck determines what cards would be best to suggest.
Hard casting Emerakul, the Aeons Torn is almost always good but Mistcutter Hydra also could do the job

Mistcutter Hydra English
Creature — Hydra 0/0, XG (1)
Mistcutter Hydra can't be countered.
Haste, protection from blue
Mistcutter Hydra enters the battlefield with X +1/+1 counters on it.

Good cards to help deck
Amulet of Vigor English
Artifact, 1 (1)
Whenever a permanent enters the battlefield tapped and under your control, untap it.

Seer's Sundial English
Artifact, 4 (4)
Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may pay {2}. If you do, draw a card.

These also might be helpful
Akoum Stonewaker English
Creature — Human Shaman 2/1, 1R (2)
Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may pay {2}{R}. If you do, create a 3/1 red Elemental creature token with trample and haste. Exile that token at the beginning of the next end step.
Embodiment of Fury English

Creature — Elemental 4/3, 3R (4)
Trample
Land creatures you control have trample.
Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may have target land you control become a 3/3 Elemental creature with haste until end of turn. It's still a land.

Retreat to Valakut English
Enchantment, 2R (3)
Landfall — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, choose one —
• Target creature gets +2/+0 until end of turn.
• Target creature can't block this turn.

I tagged this Modern and set the deck to Modern on that new format thing on the right.

Landfall seems the best bet at the moment. I'm liking Seer's Sundial + Amulet of Vigor to draw a ton and play more with the combo. Also liking Retreat to Hagra for the life drain effect, which works nicely with fetches before combo'ing and especially well with the combo.

Yeah, what format are you aming for? Because Squandered Resources is much better than Mana Seism and Natural Balance the better card to combo with. Other cards to consider:
- Planar Birth: Limited to basic lands and symmetric but much cheaper than Splendid Reclamation, so depending on the deck structure this might be better. Or maybe in addition?
- Gitrog Monster for obvious reasons
- Faith's Reward is vastly superior to Splendid Resources (for the same mana albeit in a different colour) since it a) is an instant, b) works on any permanent type AND c) the stuff comes back untapped! Also, it's modern legal and costs about 50 cent ...

Modern.

Faith's Reward is nice for the untapped effect, but Splendid Reclamation brings back all lands, not just the ones sacrificed to Mana Seism. Amulet of Vigor can get the untap effect going.

Gitrog Monster is a good contender for inclusion. I do like Ob Nixilis, the Fallen though...

Read again. Faith's Reward brings back ALL permanents, no matter how they died.
Edit: Oh, you mean when you have to fetch in the turns before? Well, there was no deck so far, so I assumed you can pop them all in the turn you "go off".

I feel like this doesn't work with Splendid Reclamation, because after sacrificing lands, you would have a lot of mana that turn, but by the next turn, you wouldn't have enough mana to cast Reclamation. I also feel as though Faith's Reward wouldn't be that useful either, because you would have to pay the four mana at the same turn, and that would counteract the effects of sacrificing the lands. However if you were going to do something like this, I would probably make it around Countryside Crusher, because whatever lands that he puts into your graveyard would also get returned by Splendid Reclamation. Them maybe put in cards like Akki Raider, and also cards with landfall effects. It would take a lot of work, but if you managed to pull it off, it would be quite cool.

Well, you need to be a bit creative here. For example, if you do this with fetchlands, you'll get back more lands than you had before. And Faith's Reward puts those lands into play untapped, so you get extra mana out of it. But yeah, as I said, Squandered Resources is a much better card and base for the deck than Mana Seism.

Sadly I'm building for Modern as most of what I already own is Modern legal. This is my normal limit unless building for Standard. So no Squandered Resources.

I did the math, I need minimum 3 lands for the sacrifice return combo. 2 cast Mana Seism and 1 more to produce the green / white for Splendid Reclamation / Faith's Reward. Any extra sacrificed land is effectively 2 mote mana.

Landfall and Countryside Crusher are the likely finishers.

Some standard cards that could be good:

Architect of the Untamed
Creature — Elf Artificer Druid 2/3, {2}{G} (3)
Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you get an energy counter.
Pay 6 Energy Counters: Create a 6/6 colorless Beast artifact creature token.

Fork in the Road
Sorcery {1}{G} (2)
Search your library for up to two basic land cards and reveal them. Put one into your hand and the other into your graveyard. Then shuffle your library.

Crawling Sensation
Enchantment {2}{G} (3)
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put the top two cards of your library into your graveyard.
Whenever one or more land cards are put into your graveyard from anywhere for the first time each turn, put a 1/1 green Insect creature token onto the battlefield.

Out of the three, Crawling is diffidently the weakest, but when I saw your deck, it made me think of that one. (and I honestly thought Crawling was a lot better than it is...)

Of the 3, Architect of the Untamed is a possible inclusion because of the landfall like effect. And only because of Splendid Reclamation, this seems like a deck where Fork in the road would be good.

So I took your deck, and combined it with a competitive Modern Scapeshift deck...

maybe just play banefire? it means your opponent cant break your win condition in response to splendid reclamation, an if you need anoher two, possible just fire ball or something.

What camed into my mind when seeing this was a one drop Seismic Assault, even on the cost a heavy red mana feeder this could speed up things a little even when you have a lot of lands on your hand. Another maybe card would be Life from the Loam
