Deck Description

Solidarity of Heroes targeting a Heroic creature, especially Setessan Oathsworn, is frigging awesome.

Deck discussion for Striving to be a Hero

Few things i see wrong here. The largest of which is that you have 0 cards to remove problematic permanents other thatn fighting them off. what do you do if there is an artifact/enchantment slowing you down or shutting you down?
The next is that once you run out of cards you are TOAST! no cards no play, and a world wipe with destroy you.
third is that without any removal or wipe recovery, you have to try and have a draw engine, which there is none.

If you can fix 1 of these 3 issues i see no reason why this deck should not win.

Still Kind of tweaking the deck and trying to figure out was can and cannot be taken out without hurting the deck. Thinking of adding Warriors' Lesson. At one mana, it's targeting 2 creatures, thus causing two heroic triggers and it helps draw cards. Also thinking of putting either my 4 Ordeal of Helliod and / or Battle Mastery back in, they where in before the mod you see here.

Elvish mystics don't play much of a role in this deck, I would scrap those I don't think they are needed with your mana ramp. Setessen Oath Sworn is double green, which elf helps with, but really green is not that strong when it comes to heroic creatures, you may want to consider sticking strictly to white creatures or add in some white/green like fleecemane lion.

Consider 2-4 Abzan Battle Priest in your deck along with a falconer.

Turn 1: Forest, Elvish Mystic.
Turn 2: land, Setessan Oathsworn
Turn 3: attack with Oathsworn, cast Nature's Panoply on the Oathsworn, let it resolve, cast Solidarity of Heroes on the Oathsworn, let it resolve, Oathsworn deals 11 damage.

^ Has happened more than once, so they stay.

I originally ran a strictly white heroic deck. I didn't enjoy it. Solidarity is a big reason I'm running green, Oathsworn is the other. Solidarity doubles after the Heroic trigger from the creature it's targeting. Oathsworn gets 2 counters each time it's targeted, making it the fastest growing heroic this side of the mana curve. If there's any creature I'm talking out, it's Phalanx Leader. Phalanx is a great card, but it doesn't quite fit the 'one big creature' theme I'm going for. (well more like "one, maybe two big creatures")

Abzan Battle Priest costs 4 mana to cast. That's a little too much for the speed I'm trying to achieve here. I even dropped Feat of Resistance in favour of Ajani's Presence because of its casting cost (God's Willing is going into the sideboard).

If you are having fun with making an 11/11 on turn 3 then by all means keep it in. With that in mind and you wanting to take out the phalanx leader I would also consider taking out wingsteed, double white is so painful IMO, if you want speed. You lack evasion beyond the wingsteed riders, which is why I suggested abzan falconer or maybe even tusk guard since it gives trample? (Or Bow of Nylea?)

God's Willing is also nice as protection also gets you through since they can't block.

Abzan battle priest is a nice later game drop to keep you surviving, I know it's 4 mana but consider sideboarding 2 for control decks?

I like this deck, I'm just trying to suggest changes that can face the thousand of Abzan aggro and midrange decks, where you are suddenly dumping cards from your hand to stop a fleecemane lion or Anafenza from stomping your face.

Thanks for the assist. Now that I'm not using auras, I'm thinking of having God's Willing mainbord with Ajani's Presence sideboard. Also want to work in some Mortal's Ardor for life gain.

Yea try out some combos. One card that Azorius Heroic uses is Defiant Strike since it gives card draw as well. Not sure if you need it but it works with that deck.

How does the deck fare in FNM?

Defiant Strike is nice for a guaranteed draw 1, but I kind of like Warriors' Lesson for the possible multi draw (and it can target 2 creatures).

I've only played it once so far (last friday), and I came 5th out of 12. Waiting for the next one to test the modifications.

Yes I agree with Warrior's Lesson, that is one of my favorite underused card draws.

Warrior's lesson was put in 6 times on accident. I hate it when the site doubles your cards!

Why does everyone choose Phalanx Leader over Akroan Skyguard?!?!?!?!?!?

Because Phalanx "shares the love", especially nice in decks that have a good number of creatures out.
