Deck Description

Ever wanted to skip the creature-part of your deck and just go totally out of control?

Jump into Total Removal Control to battle creature based aggros in Standard. Tested against mono-White humans for 5 games and all were won. Most of creature based Standard-decks should be no match against this monster. The deck is not unbeatable, but should give no quarter to any weenie aggros or aristocrat hordes.

5 planeswalkers and 3 manlands act as wincon, and if your opponent can't answer to those, it's bye bye gg. If they can, well ... side in Transgress the Minds and make sure they are not having their answers when you are about to unleash your commander onto the battlefield. >;)

Oh, and BTW: the deck is made of cards that I own. So you need to add in 4 x Languish, 4 x Declaration in stone and all the good-stuff you like. ;) I'll probably will add them once I manage to get some.

How to Play

Keep playing lands and try to hold onto your exile-removals and play other easier ones for the first creatures. Don't use Shambling Vents for defense, unless you die if you don't.

The main goal is to keep the board empty from any creatures, except from Gideon's tokens, when you have a chance to play him. Always try to prioritize removal over any of your planeswalkers, because you want to only lose life when playing Anguished Unmaking, and not risk your PWs to any possible damage. And if opponent has access to white, don't make Gideon into a creature unless they are out of cards in hand or tapped out. Otherwise keep the table clean, and aim for Ob Nixilis or Sorin, then end the game with them.

Deck discussion for BW Total Removal Control

It was amazing how much decent removal was in the current Standard these days. Most of it is in black and white, and I just gathered all what I could find from my piles, then added in the lands and a few planeswalkers that I own. The result was amazingly good, even if I believe this deck might suffer some downfalls against combo-based decks or some other types. But against white weenies, Avacyns, aristocrats and perhaps vampires, I'd say they are not gonna like their games against Total Removal Control.

Against GW-tokens, 4 test games ended into 50-50. Before siding, GW-tokens has an advantage of being able to produce to much token so quickly. After siding, Virulent Plagues and Flaying Tendrils will take over easily. The main deck would still need maybe 2-4 Declaration in stones and perhaps 1-2 Ruinous Paths. GW-tokens also had some of their aggro based on Gideon's 5/5, so it would be good to be able to remove him ASAP.

Probably put 2xGrasp of Darkness and 2xUltimate price to the side, add in +4xDeclaration in Stone. Then move 1xCelestial flare and 1xImmolating Glare to the side, and add +2 Ruinous Paths, and I think it would be good enough. For Standard games, you can easily change the one Tragic Arrogance from the main to either Languish or fourth Planar Outburst, and probably move 1xFlaying Tendrils to the side and add another Languish to replace it.

Based on a few other tests, the main weakness for the Total Removal -deck is 1.) Planeswalkers and 2.) Tokens. So GW tokens deck is it's worst enemy. Like mentioned earlier, more Ruinous Paths and Declarations should make it even, but it might need sideboarding one more plague, two languishes and one planar outburst. Single target removal is not very good against the token horde and Gideon can cause you headaches, with or without tokens. :/

This deck doesn't even die that hard to the cutthroat combo, as you have enough exile to be able to go though the triggers. Nice!

Thanks. I tested two quick games against proxied BG Aristocrats -deck Jon Finkel version, and even if the games were long, in the end the cheap BG creatures and tokens were outnumbered by Gideon's tokens and Flaying Tendrils+other exiles. Looking good so far.

After some more testing with GW tokens vs BW total removal, tokens-deck seems to have an upper hand in most of the games. The speed of token creation and pretty much untouchable Planeswalkers are a threat not to be taken lightly. It is advised not to run any Flaying Tendrils against GW tokens, because by the time you can play one of those, most of their creatures might be out of the range because of Nissa's boosting ability. Virulent Plague is the best weapon, but expect good GW players to run more enchantment-hate in their sideboards. Added 4 x Avacyns to the side, to be taken in for PW-killing duty. It is no secret, that GW tokens have problems against flyers, so in opponent's end turn flashed in Avacyn can surprise them and be able to kill off one of their PWs. If the matchup doesn't get any better from those, two Quarantine Fields can be removed from side and add 2 more evasive creatures, either flyers or perhaps Elusive Tormentors, to boost up that part. Or then add some Hangarback Walkers, maybe.

Hallowed Moonlight (1W/Instant) is an easy answer against Secure the Wastes or Hangarback Walker.
Been playing Steve Rubin's GW Tokens against different BW control lists and haven't fared too well. BW Control has the upper hand if you keep the board clear and force Tokens to play reactively or defensive.
And have you tried any testing against 4 Color Rites ?

Not yet. It has been on my list of decks to test against, and I will probably run it next. Good thing you mentioned Hallowed Moonlight, because I think I have some of those and not used them anywhere before this. You might be right about BW tactics against GW tokens - Virulent Plagues are the thing to go for, but I guess you'd also need 4 x Languish, *maybe* 1-2 Flaying Tendrils for good spots, and side out most of the single target removal. Then again, what creatures you think BW control should include? For now, I was considered about taking out their PWs, but if you can keep the board clean from tokens, you might as well go to their heads with good punchers like Avacyn.

Just one Kalitas can throw off Tokens. 3x Kalitas in the main is a pain in the backside. Tokens would want to pump Hangarbacks when possible. Drop Kalitas before Hangarback gets too big, and when it dies, it becomes exiled and the Thopters are nullified, further throwing off the Token's strategy to fill the board. Secondly, Tokens plays mostly creatures at or under 3 toughness, all of which Kalitas exiles. Third, you could drop Gideon, -4 for emblem, and next turn Drop a 4/5 Kalitas than can, turn after, take down Nissa or Gideon your opponent plays, and you gain the 4 life. Even if you take a beating early, Kalitas can bring you back up and over 20 in no time. Even if you put in card draw like Read the Bones, Kalitas effectively makes the self-damage moot. The only way Tokens can get around Kalitas is either the one or two Stasis Snare in the main or the Quarantine Field from sideboard, or they have to get real creative and play Gideon, +1 to make him a creature, and play Dromoka's command, target Gideon to give +1/+1 and fight it. Otherwise, he's there to stay. I think by now you get my point.
Relentless Dead is only a notch below Kalitas. Even if it dies to combat damage, the BW player can pay 1 Swamp to return it to their hand, and it's only a BB on the next turn. And it has Menace.
I've also seen Avacyn in BW to counter the Avacyns run by Tokens.

I would say you should run four wrath of gods instead of Planar outburst. This deck already isn't standard, so all it will do is bring mana average converted mana cost down, and destroy land creatures.
