Nissa, Steward of Elements is a good Aether Vial replacement and Grand Architect gives an additional +1 / +1 for your blue creatures. Could also suggest playing Sage of Fables as it boosts your wizard Merfolk additionally like Metallic Mimic does and keeps you an additional card draw for removing a counter+1 for the idea

Good suggestions, I am still not set on Sage of Fables, as I have many non-Wizards merfolks.I'll probably get a copy and give it a try though.
True, but those might also get counters and Sage of Fables lets you remove those for an extra card draw anyways
