Deck Description

This is a modified 1-2 turn kill "Dark Depths" deck. This idea is that I wanted to replace some of the commonly used cards with ones that I felt were more efficient and quicker at getting Marit Lage on the battlefield and finding the cards in your library needed to do so. You'll notice that while this deck is mono-black, there isn't a single swamp. Each land choice is to help make it harder to fight/counter against.

How to Play

Fast and reckless! The idea is to be as quick as possible towards finding the cards that get Marit Lage out, because once that happens...

Deck discussion for Cthulhu

What the hell?! I have to admit that you've made some very interesting edits to a proven formula. 28 lands in a 60 card deck?!! I thought you were crazy yet oddly, 9 out of 10 sample draws had me winning turn 2! Impressive to say the least! The only change I would make would be to remove the Zuran Orb (although I can appreciate its inclusion for balancing the life costs of tutoring your library) and add one more Lighting Greaves. I love love love how you don't have a single swamp in an all black deck, and not one card is over 3 mana. Very outside the box my friend. Nice work and deck (if not a bit expensive)!

Going through the sample draws is amazing. You really had to put a lot of brain power and work in here to make this deck go to the lengths it does. definitely appreciated. also will not be playing this deck any time soon hahahah.

Thanks phuturegrits1! It was a lot of trial and error before I finally found a good union between the Phylactery Lich as a low cost back-up "muscle" just in case I couldn't get Marit Lage out. Someone else said it would never work because there weren't enough creatures in the deck and too many lands. What he didn't realize until we played was that I have 8 lands that act as creature neutralizers (Maze of Ith and Ice Floe).
