This deck uses elves and strong creatures to overwhelm the opponent quickly. Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is the heaviest hitter when considering its outstanding ability to deal 6 points of damage to any player that casts a noncreature spell.
By limiting the amount of noncreature spells in this deck, the risk of being hurt by Ruric Thar's abilities are minimized. Because many of the creatures in this deck are costly, elves are put in to generate mana much faster.
