Deck Description

I'm tired of people dismissing Vexing Devil so I thought I'd give him a shot. Typical red deck, throw down creatures and turn them sideways, the burn and the wolves will help clear the path for them, Hellriders in for the win.

The ultimate play and reason to include the Vexing Devil is a turn four drop of the Devil, they take 4, he dies and you play a Brimstone Volley for 5, making 9 damage for 4 mana.

I'll admit, I'm one of those people who hate on Vexing Devil, but his synergy with Morbid and Brimstone Volley is worth noting. This deck is really good :) I think that if possible, you should find some way to take the Devil's Play out of the sideboard. With 22 lands, you aren't likely to get any more out of it than a sorcery speed, 4 mana Searing Spear with an extra ping as flashback. If you happen to have any, Hound of Griselbrand is a great curvetopper and really just beats most decks, It's kind of surprising actually the way it kills most relevant creatures right now, save maybe Angel of Serenity. This is a good deck though. Good luck at FNM :)

my only suggestion is to drop the hellion. I run a deck similar to this and I had it in my original deck list, but I took it out after many tests as it just never worked. I never had enough mana/time to pay the cost to add the counters and then sac the land to get the creature. not to mention the times you draw two lands to start with and one of them is the hellion then you cant play the zealot on turn two unless you luck out on your draw. trust me just drop it. you may want to cut down the wolf and hellrider to three each and add more direct damage like 2 more pillars, devils play or something like that. good luck

You were 100% right about the Hellion. I should've taken it out, for the most part it was fine and I did even use it once when playing bant control (not that it helped, I was way too slow) but there were several draws when I was stuck with this, a mountain and a Zealot in hand, painful.

I went 3-2 last night, not bad. In my bias-opinion I was VERY unlucky against bant control, terrible draws both games, I had 9 mountains out in one game! Unfortunately I wasn't anywhere near fast enough to match B/R Zombies. Good fun though, I even got to Vex-Volley for 9 once! I want to try this again, and will continue to run this until I somehow crack or trade for Thundermaw Hellkites! :)

I've been a fan of Vex from the start. The other card I think is being underused in Boros decks, though I expect will leap up a bit when Gatecrash comes (though I'm often wrong) is Dynacharge. In RDW, 2R for +2/+0 to all your creatures can finish games.

That's because Rally the Peasants is just better in Boros, but that is also underplayed :(
