Honestly, I REALLY just wanted to build a list around Emry. I don't know where this stands among casual and competitive lists, but I did my best to make the list actively want to win as quickly as possible. I left in a couple of cards that people would likely consider not competitive, and that's ok by me for now. I've never played mono U in my life, but I've been experimenting with playing new things and I love Emry's design and potential so I'm giving her a shot. Suggestions are always welcome, and I'm hoping to keep some of my own personal spin on the list for the sake of enjoyment so please don't take it the wrong way if I don't make every change proposed. I hope others enjoy the list, I'm looking forward to sleeping this one up soon!
Emry is both a combo engine and a card draw engine when you look at her through a competitive lens. She can filter your draws, fetch artifacts from your graveyard, and abuse loops that can generate infinite advantage. At cmc3, you can and should cast her as quickly as possible. Even if she is removed, she can fill your graveyard with necessary pieces and she can activate her ability in response to get back value upon being targeted. In this list there are several ways to win such as creating infinite mana with various mana sinks (Staff of Domination, Finale of Revelation, and Mistbind Clique) to draw your library out, force your opponents to draw out, shutting down their mana at their upkeep to prevent them from winning, etc. You can also make really splashy plays such as Flood of Tears into Omniscience to play out your entire hand after bouncing the entire board, cast Mettalurgic Summonings to casually produce massive threats as the game goes long, and loop cmc0 artifacts between the battlefield and your graveyard with Emry to build a massive Storm count and play out your library with Mind's Desire. There are probably other pieces that could fit into this list that might improve how it functions, and I'm more than happy to experiment and explore them. I hope it is as fun to play as it was to build.
