Deck Description

Sometimes Defense is the best offence. That phrase can be explained in this deck.
Let me know what you guys think.

The deck is based on assault formation, and using it for making your creatures assign combat damage Equal to its toughness.

I do like the idea but it is a little too expensive to put out, but it would be nice to have in the sideboard.

Meh. I suppose.

I'd actually say he's not a good SB card, might make an OK bomb but tbh he's not that big a deal when you can do things like Mizzium Skins and Tower Defense with potentially a big ball of creatures.

You could run arcades, the strategist.
Also, I suggest running creatures with higher toughness like wall of omen is good.
Wall of Frost is an old classic along with wall of tanglecord.

Ordinarily I would agree, particularity with Arcades, but here I think he is trying to find creatures without defender, so they can attack a little easier. It's just an odd thing to try and find creatures with really low power and high toughness that aren't defenders.

That being said his pump spells are extremely efficient. Particularly Tower Defense and Shape the Sands.

Which could easily make up for the smaller creatures.

That is what I was going for.

That being said I think phyrexian walker or spells kite would be better than hedron crab in this deck.

the problem with arcades is that it is green blue and white. I know I have birds of paradise but it would be a little hard to get out. birds would be a necessity to play it.
I do like that concept of defender with this but I was going for the low cost non defender 0 power cards, like kazzong said, to make it easier to attack.

phyrexian walker isn't legal in modern.
spellskite though is very useful in this. although I do like hedron crab.
I think ill sideboard hedron crab and put spellskite in.

Oh, didn't know you were going for modern legal. I suppose that makes sense.

So if you stay in blue and green I don't really think you really need birds when I see your curve.
I think Sidisi's faithful could replace birds or even the kraken hatchling... Permeating Mass is also an interesting choice for dealing with big threats.

Sidisi's faithful is a good choice. Thanks for the suggestion.

Wouldn't defender cards be ideal in this deck?
You can make it so you can attack with them using assault formations ability.

I do like the idea of having defender cards being able to attack with it. But in this case I'm trying to make it so I don't have to pay the mana every time I attack.

Ohhhh I see. Well that makes sense.

permeating mass doesn't really go well with tetsuko umezawa, fugitive.
although it would go good in the sideboard.

Hmm... Why do you say that?

Oh I guess I miss read the card but I don't like having it so when I don't have testudo out he can block my creatures and his bocome permeating mass. Therefore if I try to block his permeating mass, my 0/6 dragons eye, savants would become a 1/3. I wouldn't be able to do as much damage.

I like that you can use Muddle the Mixture to tutor out Assault Formation or Tetsuko, took a minute to catch that. Should be pretty consistent. Would still like to see some draw added though.

Azami, Lady of Scrolls (maybe as a 1 of, since you've got Wizards o plenty to draw from)
Shielded Aether Thief (Surprisingly good as a 0/4 flash and can draw you cards)
Eternal of Harsh Truths
River Hoopoe
Sygg, River Cutthroat
Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar

Of course you've always got the option of sorcery (or possibly instant) based draw.

I guess having draw would be useful in case you don't have assault formation or muddle the mixture in your opening hand. What should I take out though?

Here's my decklist, I like this concept a lot, for the same reason I like Doran as a Commander. It messes with the scale of the game a lot. https://www.mtgvault.com/andarious/decks/modern-assault-formation-budge/

It's interesting. It's definitely different from this version. But it's still good.
