The first WTW deck

by LORDOFTHESPARK on 16 September 2016

Main Deck (30 cards)

Sideboard (1 card)

Planeswalkers (1)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

WTW is a new format I have been working on for awhile now. You start with 10 life, this is intended to be a shorter game. It is sort of like edh but with ANY planeswalker as your " commander" and STANDARD cards in the deck. There has to be exactly 30, 40, 50, or 60 cards in a deck. At the start of your draw step you either draw a card from the top OR put the bottom card of your library on top without looking then draw a card. Once per turn you can activate the first ability listed on your planeswalker if its in the " Walker's zone" ( which is technically on the battlefield but no on the battlefield abilities are caused to trigger) . Like edh you can only have a copy of each card, BUT you can have up to 2 non basic land copies in the deck ( this does not apply to basic lands). You can only have cards in the deck with no more converted mana cast than 1 + the converted mana cost of your "walker's" converted mana cost ( Walker is what you call the "commander"). Like edh you have to follow the color identity of the walker. Similar to edh, you can play your walker from the Walker's zone. I have not come up with a ban list yet, if anybody knows of any cards that should be banned let me know.

I would actually suggest a different name because while it does make sense, it just doesn't feel right. I'm not even sure what to suggest in terms of alternatives, but maybe something really catchy. Planeswalker Wars? P dubs for short? That might work. I like the idea because it is innovative. I made one with my friends once around the time theros came out called devotion. It was strictly permanents only, had too include one of the gods, and at least one other card that used devotion. They were legacy legal to capitalize on variety, and actually preformed rather well, though blue was easily the underdog (fish devotion was brutal).

Grand Prix is like one of the largest tournaments for magic in the world...

Anyhow, that doesn't sound bad. Although I'd say maybe call it "War of the Walkers"

"You start with 10 life, this is intended to be a shorter game."
You should make it a bit more, or put Hidetsugu's Second Rite on a ban list.

"It is sort of like edh but with ANY planeswalker as your " commander" and STANDARD cards in the deck."
You should probably open that up to extended, because then you aren't breaking it completely by going to modern or legacy.

"There has to be exactly 30, 40, 50, or 60 cards in a deck."
Pick one. My suggestion is 60 since it's more easily balanced

"At the start of your draw step you either draw a card from the top OR put the bottom card of your library on top without looking then draw a card."
That's way too advantageous as there are plenty of cards that put stuff on the bottom of your library. Just stick to regular draw.

"Once per turn you can activate the first ability listed on your planeswalker if its in the " Walker's zone" ( which is technically on the battlefield but no on the battlefield abilities are caused to trigger)."
That's waaaaaaaaay too powerful with certain walkers. Jace, TMS could start milling from the first turn, Elspeth, Suns Champion starts a small army, Nicol Bolas would completely shut down any land that the opponent played. Leave them off until they hit the field, THEN let them start activating abilities, otherwise NO ONE will want to play.

"Like edh you can only have a copy of each card, BUT you can have up to 2 non basic land copies in the deck ( this does not apply to basic lands)."
This seems out of place. It could be useful, but I'm on the fence with this one.

"You can only have cards in the deck with no more converted mana cast than 1 + the converted mana cost of your "walker's" converted mana cost ( Walker is what you call the "commander")."
Regardless of how much the PW costs, you should set a maximum cmc for the deck. Tiny leaders for example limits you to a max of 3cmc, so maybe you should go with 4 or 5.

This is all just my opinion on certain things you wrote out and are no more than suggestions. You can completely disregard them if you like, but I'm only trying to help in the end.
