Deck Description

I don't play competitively or pay much attention to new releases, but I was inspired by the Explore mechanic when I viewed this deck:

"Into the Wildgrowth" by MightyShoe
http://www.mtgvault.com/mightyshoe/decks/into-the-wildgrowth/

I love Green and White, I love growing big creatures, and I love the deck manipulation of Explore. I cloned the deck and have been flavoring it to my own personal taste while keeping the original cast of creatures intact.

I have reduced some of the more protective cards and increased a couple of the cards to trigger Explore more often. I also felt that the creatures, while able to grow effectively, lacked some aggressive punch, so I mixed in some boosts and Trample.

I also love the fact that this deck is very budget-friendly and only uses three rares. I imagine it will stay cheap unless something weird happens with the new Rivals cards.

How to Play

Wildgrowth Walker is your best bet as a heavy hitter, so ideally is the first creature that makes it to the battlefield. The rest of your 2-, 3-, and 4-drop creatures all Explore and provide all the benefits that come with it. The life gain is a very impressive bonus as well. It's surprisingly easy to put together a strong army of creatures, and you either end up with extra-strong creatures, or you have plenty of lands in hand. "Enter the Unknown" is an excellent play no matter what is going on. "Appeal // Authority" is perfect for this deck, ensuring your strong creatures are able to score damage on your opponent.

I'm very excited to actually build and play this deck since it really appeals to my style. Since I have no real need to be Standard legal, I will probably swap Sunpetal Grove for Fortified Village. There are a few other non-Standard cards I would likely use, but will try to keep this Standard legal, officially.

Deck discussion for Exploring the Wilds

excellent job at it for your deck :)

i just wrote a comment for the original deck you cloned from MightyShoe that could interest you.
Some cards like Blossoming Defense are cheap to buy and do wonders. Evolving Wild can also help you at a cheap price.

I'm actually working on a B/G explore deck if you want to take a look.

Allelujah people are starting to brew again in standard!!!

Not sure if I can still claim this to be a "budget" deck, but I ended up with two Jadelight Rangers so I swapped them in place of the Sunlight Seekers.
