Deck Description

A powerful human based deck. I placed 5th at FNM, only lost to a mono-black infect deck - unfortunately decided to declare two draws with people. Next time I'll play more aggressively.

Deck discussion for Guardians of Thraben - Standard

Just curious how often do you have to mulligan because of lands or lack there of? It's probably my opinion but from my experiences playing a deck with only 20 lands is pretty risky. Also the Gallows and Divine Deflection seem kind of disjointed with the rest of the deck. Also if you rarely get the angels why not just take them out and make it Mono White Humans? These are all just my opinions. Do whatever you want with the deck. Don't forget that it's always up to you what to do with your deck.

I haven't had to mulligan very often, and my meta environment seems to run mana light. If I go up to 22 I'd probably just take out the Overseer and Divine Deflection. The gallows have proven themselves to be extremely good removal for me, many times. Thanks for the comment!

Come to think of it, I guess you're right. I could take out both Sigarda for two more plains, and swap out the Sunpetal Grove for a plains. That would put me at 24 and give me a lower curve.

No problem. Like I said do what you want. I was just saying what I would do.

She may not be an angel, but you may get better results if you turn 2 of Angel of Jubiliation into 2 Hero of bladehold. That way, another Jubilation can pump the tokens she makes. Also, since you're running Thalia, you may want to run Grand Abolisher. Your opponent already cant play spells during your turn, so the Abolisher would put even more mana hurting on them since they need to waste more mana on their turn.

I agree with the Abolisher, but I don't have any. I also don't have any Hero of Bladehold, and my friends don't exactly want to trade theirs to me. Thanks for the feedback!

My god, the more I think about the nastier Thalia and the Abolisher sounds to me. I will HAVE to trade to get some. Thank you sir!

I like the deck built here, specifically more for the counter combos that can be built.

Do you mean putting counters on my creatures, like with Mikaeus? I've thought about adding in a Cathar Crusade or two...

Exactly that. Stocking up on counters on the side while building your line is very helpful (I believe).

Also, I made edits to my deck, what do you think?

You know if I end up ripping out the Angels, and just go entirely humans, I think I'll replace them with Cathar Crusade.

Regarding your deck I have to agree with Compking that adding abolisher to this deck will be really cool also if you manage to add cards like Gideon's Lawkeeper, Chancellor of the Annex, Curse of exhaustion it can easily turn into a Prison deck.

I was adding the Abolishers I traded for last night as you commented, funny that! Thanks for the comment. I've got the Curse in my sideboard, any thoughts what I would swap out for it? Angel of Jubilation?

I may go -1 Riders of Gavony for 1 Curse, Also a few things I was thinking to change to have better sinergy:
-1 Doomed Traveler
-2 Mikaeus
-4 Angel of Jubilation
-2 NearHeath
-1 Honor of the pure
+3 Cathedral Sanctifier(blink it with Restoration angel)
+3 Restoration Angel(Great for ambushing creatures and blink effects)
+2 Mentor of the Meek(This card does not play well with cards like honor of the pure)
+1 Thraben Doomsayer
+1 Geist Honored Monk(blink it with Restoration angel)
This will make all your cards interact in a better way and give you a more consistent deck exploiting the comes into play ability and Mentor card drawing, I now those are a lot of changes and a major spin-off of the deck but take what you like from it.

I like your suggestions, but I think I may actually remove the Mentor of the Meek and look for something else at the 2 mana slot. Maybe the other two Nearheath Pilgrim in my sideboard.

Devout Chaplains replaced the Mentors. In my play testing I was never able to use the Mentor's card draw ability (as you noted). Devout Chaplains let me exploit my large pool of humans to zap enemy enchantments and artifacts (take that, swords!)

Nice deck! Iv got a soft spot for mono white human decks :) I'm very amateur, so don't have any advice, but if you'd care to check out my white human allies deck, I'd be grateful!

The deck did well at FNM. It's been updated and is meaner than it was before.
