Deck Description

Okay, so the idea of this deck is simple. You kill their creatures, and enchant their creatures in a way that it deals damage to them as well. I got the idea from the game "The Last of Us," and thought "hey, I wonder if I could make a deck like this." So I started brainstorming ideas of how I could be like a parasitic fungus that takes over the mind of its host. Before too long, I came up with this. It just so happened to come out as a budget deck, and it does fairly well.

How to Play

This deck is fairly simple. For one, the only creature in this deck is Sleeper Agent. The idea of Sleeper Agent is to act like a double edge sword. It will deal two damage to them every turn, and if they want to attack me, I could have it enchanted with Contaminated Bond, thus dealing five damage to them in a turn. Now, as long as they have a creature on the field, you can enchant them with Ragged Veins or Treacherous Link, then deal a bunch of damage to them. They may be able to hit you, but you are in control of their creatures, and can deal your damage more quickly. So, what do you guys think?

Example of a hand that you want:
Turn 1: Swamp, Sleeper Agent. Two damage dealt to them by your next turn.
Turn 2: Mountain, Bloodshed Fever, Sinister Possession. They attack for three, and they have now taken six damage.
Turn 3: Mountain or Swamp, Treacherous Link on Sleeper Agent, Flame Slash on Sleeper Agent, then they attack with Sleeper Agent. They have now taken 14 damage.
Turn 4: Mountain or Swamp, Flame Slash on Sleeper Agent. Your opponent has now taken 18 damage. They are dead at the start of their next turn.

Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Cordyceps

Lovely.
Would someone love to see Festering Wound added to the deck...but don't see a place for it.

The Meteor with the Link is nice!

+1 from me.
Maybe Sideboard Pyroclasm for aggro/weenie decks.

I do like Festering Wound, but I like the idea of the cordyceps taking over the creatures' minds, just like the real cordyceps fungus. I'm not sure where I'd put Festering Wound, anyways. I was thinking about Pyroclasm, but I also thought that Earthquake would allow me to do extra damage to the player. However, Pyroclasm is a little easier to throw out. I'm really on the fence with this one. Haha. Thanks for the input, buddy.

I did decide to sideboard both Tormenting Voices, and remove two Harvest Pyres for Lust for War. Do you think that's a good idea?

Seems reasonable.

+1 for the name ;-) Their creatures are like ants being commanded by Cordyceps Universalis to crawl where you want them to, where they die and make you stronger. Brilliant!

Thank you for the compliment, and for understanding the meaning behind the name, sir!!

Nice deck! Have you considered Stab Wound?

Cheers!

Good suggestion, sir! I may just have to squeeze that in there. Thank you.

Stab Wound and Sleeper Agent are best friends.

Cool deck. The only thing is that you don't have much to deal damage if sleeper agent gets removed quickly.

Although as I'm sitting here I can't really think of too much that fits. Maybe a disentomb to get her back? Lightning bolt over flame slash?

Also you could build a modern variation of this deck with Will-o-Wisp instead of wall of souls and maybe a kill spell or sign in blood over treacherous link

Instead of Disentomb I'd rather go with Unearth. Puts the creature directly into play and can be cycled if need be.

I think Lightning Bolt is definitely a better card than Flame Slash, however, the idea is to make things based upon their creatures. I could use Lightning Bolt to zap them for three damage, but it doesn't fit the flavor. Most people use creature based decks, so if I can even start enchanting one of their creatures, that would work great. I'm thinking of using Lightning Axe instead of Flame Slash, though. Thoughts?

Nice deck idea! Seems pretty evil.
Well, it's BlacknRed after all. :)

Thank you, sir. It isn't be most dangerous deck, but it's fun to play, and kind of annoying. I just like building flavor decks.

Reminds me of my BW Stronghold Discipline deck.

> Hissing Miasma: Helps against the go wide strategies.
> Vampiric Link: Does not grant lifelink. Because of the way it's worded, the controller of the enchantment gains the life, not the controller of the creature. Put this on an opponent's creature and you'll gain life equal to the amount it deals to you.
> Batwing Brume: The pay {B} part makes the opponent lose 1 life for each creature they're attacking with.

Creature suggestions:
Goblin Spymaster
Goblin Diplomats
Hunted Dragon

I like the last the best.

I think Goblin Spymaster is a fantastic fit. I need to squeeze that one in. I like the other two, but Spymaster is perfect. Thanks!

Further searching:
-Backlash
-Spiteful Shadows (Same as Treacherous Link and Ragged Veins. Though Ragged Veins has flash)
-Touch of Moonglove? (good defense against the unexpected, still lends to the idea that creatures are damaging their player)
-Humble Defector (mayyyybe. Playtest the idea that this guy would help draw the bad enchantments for you, play them on him, and pass him off to end the game)
-Soul Foundry (ehhh at CMC 4, but it'd be nice to make a new Sleeper Agent every turn for one colorless)
-Nettling Curse
