Deck Description

Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.
Use your bank account on nearest MTG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!
The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and the deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)

This specific budget deck is inspired and requested by flightningf.

How to Play

Walls can be surprisingly ferocious if provoked.

Cast a bunch of walls to keep yourself alive, then play cards like Wakestone Gargoyle and Assault Formation (preferably the Formation) to proceed on winning the game.

Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Deadly Walls

Hurricane / Squall Line could be a nice finisher using all of the mana Axebane Guardian can produce (even if from sideboard).

y u no guardian of meletis? 6 fromage for 3 manas. Is axe guardian really that relevant in this deck? Id swap that out for guards.

nvm, guardian has more synergy here.

I would get rid of steel wall and replace with Perimeter Captain if I were you.

1
Posted 26 August 2015 at 02:36

also Steel wall TECHNICALLY isnt a Defender, it just says it cant attack.

Steel wall has defender. Check gatherer for the oracle text if you want. The Walls can't attack reminder text was removed from the game and replaced with the defender mechanic.

Ah gotcha. Well even with that being said, the Captain's ability still makes it better in my opinion

icic, but i second TWally's suggestion. Captain is better.

I think Steel Wall is a better choice in a multi color deck. Steel Wall is a more reliable turn one drop.

1
Posted 26 August 2015 at 06:24

true a colorless 1 drop is more reliable in a multicolor deck BUT when theirs only 4 1cmc cards in the entire deck, you're more likely NOT to get that card in the first place. I think commiting to 1 white mana is worth it. 11 white mana sources in the deck is more than enough.

I'd recommend Overgrown Battlement over Vine Trellis. It's just straight up more mana and it's only 4 cents more each card.

Very nice! Would you be able to make a post roatation standard, that is b/w, with no m15 or theros in it? so basically, the entire deck is khans block into origins, that would be sick! thanks bro! ( my computer was screwing up so i havent been on in a long time)

I know it's out of the whole Wall kinda theme you've got going but I've found Assault Formation to be more effective without defenders; I've got a standard deck that uses Yoked Ox, Lagonna Band Trailblazer, Nyx Fleece Ram and some other high toughness 1/2 drops along with toughness buffing enchantments.
Always makes me feel warm and fuzzy beating an opponent down turn 4 with a bunch of livestock.

Oh also Sight of the Scalelords will work well for, as does Abzan Beastmaster; he's basically a 0 damage Dark Confidant in the deck.

If more attack enablers (for walls) are needed, there's also "Rolling Stones":
Enchantment for 1W. Wall creatures can attack as though they didn't have Defender.

Warmonger's Chariot is an equipment that allows defenders to attack. It also gives +2/+2

I would take a look at "Order of the Stars" (0,27$) and "Perimeter Captain" (~0,25$), two very good cc1 creatures.
"Stalwart Shield-Bearers" (~0,15$) could also be of interest, a global +0/+2 buff for all your defenders.
If you need more carddraw "Carven Caryatid" (~0,29$) could be an option.

Greetings
Muktol

I find your lack of Wall of Omens disturbing.

1
Posted 27 August 2015 at 08:00

I'm guessing here, but with Wall of Omens being over $2 each, it's probably too expensive for NorthernWarlord's idea for "budget".

2
Posted 27 August 2015 at 08:10

Exactly...

0
Posted 27 August 2015 at 10:47

still puts the deck under $20... what exactly is the magic budget around here?!

1
Posted 27 August 2015 at 13:59

Thank you Zaklax. If <20$ isn't budget anymore then I'm disappointed. Even the description says 10-20$.

1
Posted 27 August 2015 at 19:05

I think northy would agree that 18$ is still in the ultra-budget category

1
Posted 27 August 2015 at 20:26

Hey Northy, what would you do if you can't get out a Assault Formation or Wakestone Gargoyle? Are there any more wincons?

0
Posted 27 August 2015 at 22:19

is doran, siege tower too out side of the budget? if so it would be a good next step for taking it closer to the competitive side.

0
Posted 28 August 2015 at 00:36

Bruh even if it was in the budget, the deck doesnt run all of its colors...

0
Posted 28 August 2015 at 03:10

Hey Northy. I've always loved walls. How about Wall of Omens and Wall of Blossoms since they replace themselves with card draw? And Wall of Reverence for life gain and for blocking fliers? And I know Nyx-Fleece Ram isn't a wall, but for a 2-drop that gives you life gain each turn as a 0/5 pseudo-wall? Great, especially with your Assault Formation.

I noticed in the sideboard, Door to Nothingness was added, but there's no cards in the deck or sideboard to untap it should one need to.

I'm so dumb, I had assumed that it stayed untapped instead of actually reading the card. Sorry

Nice deck, got to love making walls huge attackers. A couple of suggestions..

I'd drop Steel Wall for Wall of Omens.. a bit more expensive, but this deck is so cheap that it would probably still fit into your budget theme.

I'd also drop a Soul of the Harvest for another Tower Defense. Otherwise this is a pretty cool deck. +1 Like.

If you have some time check out my newest deck on here.. it's a RUG control/overrun deck.. Always appreciate your input.

Dude, you've outdone yourself once again! Though I don't see how you'll win without picking up Assault Griffin. Still, a surprising new wall deck for my free time and spare money? Why the heck not!
Yours truly,
Shui :)

assault formation allows for creatures with defender to attack as if they didn't have it, for G. so that allows for some powerful blows as it also makes your creatures deal damage equal to their toughness instead of their power.

1

Yup, but if you don't pick it up, you're screwed. Still, it is a cool deck :)

as with any deck if you don't draw your key cards... but it looks like this deck has a decent draw engine so I don't think that would be too much of an issue.

OK, sooo just went through everything defender and every wall. This deck truly is art. One card that would break this is Retribution of the Meek. I recognize it might not fit the format but dropping it would amazing. Since you can stop anything 3 and below.
