Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Nest of Insects

Maybe some early mana ramp with Elvish Mystic and Rampant Growth? Mystic isn't an insect, but it might help in this deck.

Nantuko Elder!

I would concider adding swarmyard. It can regenerate all your creatures and is still modern legal.

But it is not "My Budget" -legal.

Rule 781: there are always more scute bugs. Probably my favorite one drop in green ever. Wonderful in ramp and manages to stay a threat the whole game.

Scute mob is awesome. As is the flavor text.

Triple that. Love those little bugs.

in my opinion, probably one of the best green early game creatures. :)

Also while I'm commenting saber ants and nantuko (insert rest of name here) make bugs when they get hit and are wonderful attack deterrent. The nantuko one is a two or three drop I think and are great for holding the opponent off until you hit the big bugs.

Broodhatch Nantuko? Seems pretty decent. I guess I can add it.

By the time you are able to play Boundless Realms you would already have enough mana to play most of the stuff in your deck. I would take that out and replace it with Rangers Path or even Cultivate. Though Boundless realms is good for taking a lot of land out of your deck which makes it easier to draw other cards...I guess it's just more a matter of figuring out do you need land early on or later.

You might also like to check out Hornet Queen. Sorry I am new on here so I am not use to doing the links :)

Also I still like to have a couple of cards that lets me destroy artifacts or enchantments. Like Natural End which also gives you 3 life. Exile would be nice but for green that is a little tricky. Fade into Antiquity would be your best bet. It's an exile card but it does not target creatures or plainswalkers :(

I also noticed that a lot of these use counters and some use tokens (Hornet Queen uses tokens BTW) so I was thinking maybe some doubling Season cards would work well with this deck too.

Swarm Yard is a great land to have in an insect deck (But I am pretty sure that is to pricey.)

Though since this is budget I think some or all of the cards I mentioned might be out of the price range :(

Thank you a lot about suggestions. You have your point. Removing Boundless Realms now. Though Swarmyard, Doubling Season and Hornet Queen would fit like a dream, they are too priceful. Sorry.

Also, I thought adding some enchantment-artifact removal, but I guess Rust Scarab is enough. Is it?

Rust Scarab is good but you will have to wait at least 4 turns till you can play it (If you manage to draw a land ramp card and get Rusty in your hands early) and then another turn till you can attack. By that time they might have some artifacts and enchantments out that are giving them the upper hand.Plus it only works if they chose to block it. You might have to buff it up a bit before you start attacking or it will die and there goes your removal tool.

Hmmm... That's right... Guess I can fit some removal here... What to replace, what to replace...

What about put in some Nantuko Vigilante or Nullmage Advocate. Both very budget and fit the theme.

What do you find yourself searching the most, with the Beast Tracker? He is so good for themed decks.

I don't know, maybe Giant Adephage? Or if your are against blue control, then Skylasher.

Ooooo, so much potential. Saber Ants? Symbiotic Beast? One Dozen Eyes?

A shame Swarmyard is like $8.00. A single copy would be SO awesome....

Calling you out, NorthernWarlord.
People love to challenge you to design decks.
So...I want you to add to my 2 mana challenge list.

Challenge is simple. You can use cards like fire//ice, as well as cards with x, as long as their converted mana is 2. So...any card in Magic the Gathering as long as it reads 2cmc on your Mana Curve.

I have 2 decks as such:
http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/blackwhite-2-mana-deck/
http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/2-mana-challenge/

Design it, if you will, and I will post it on the 2 mana challenge Deck.

P.S...any advice on my 2 attempts is greatly appreciated.

When you said Fire//Ice, I immediately wanted to make 2-mana Izzet deck. Guess I gotta get moving, then?

Hunt the Hunter is strictly better than Prey Upon.

Hunting Wilds is strictly better than Ranger's Path.

Coiling Woodworm would be very dangerous in this.

I would prefer Hornet Queen over Living Hive.

Beacon of Creation would be perfect for this.

Replacing 4 Forests with Tranquil Thickets would help preventing mana floods. However, they would work against the Beacon and Woodworm I suggested, so do only either or the other.

Adding Tranquil Thickets now.

Now...i wonder if there are witches and wardrobes in Magic, because I know there are lions.

No need to downvote you, Jessie. I think this "advertising" is okay. If people wouldn't advertise on my decks, I guess their decks would never make it to the hot page. At least it feels so nowadays.

2

Which is sad and stupid. It shouldn't be the goal to make it frontpage in the first place. I really don't understand why people keep on focussing on that - it's on the frontpage because it's on the frontpage, so what? Does nobody search for tags for example? But, as I said to Jessie already, the problem is not the system, the problem is the users. We do have tabs like "unloved" but nobody can be forced to use them. People like to flock to what's popular, blindly, no matter why it's popular, making it more popular by posting to it.

BTW, I also need help on my newest creation. I'll make suggestions on yours in return.

I am currently building an insect/poison deck, green and black, not budget. I was curious to see what suggestions you would have in mind. I am trying to stick with the insect creature type as I already have a collection of "tribal" buff spells. I have a very very very rough outline of creatures and spells I am looking into to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
