Deck Description

Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.
Use your bank account on nearest MTG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!
The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)

How to Play

Inspired by ceefu.

Okay... This must be the most weirdest deck I've ever created. Cast whole bunch of defenders, hold your opponent away while trying to take them out with cards like Furystoke Giant, Mob Justice and Vent Sentinel.

Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Rainbow Guardian

This deck has a really odd way of trying to win. 2weird4me
Still, it's a pretty neat way to win.

I dont understand why you wouldnt but an X cost bomb like fireball though, I've made axebane decks before and they can get you some high mana

Tree of Redemption would go well in this deck, Just in case you come up against a burn deck or something of that ilk. But I really like it it looks like it would be a fun deck to completely annoy your friends with. Oh, and Fog... fog would help as well.+1 from me!

If you have enough defenders, Thassa's Ire is a win. Tap axebane for 5 blue, use 4 to untap, do this a few hundred times. Tap for 5 red, spend some to untap. Tap again, untap. Use red mana to tap vent sentinel, blue to unap him, infinite damage combo. If you have 5 defenders and just axebane and ire, infinite mana, so just spend it on ire to tap down everything. and the card only costs 13 cents!

Or use freed from real or Pemmin's Aura for an infinite combo with axebane guardian

I really like defender decks because they win without having to attack the opponent, and this one is rainbow so extra points. +1

Oh jeeze... what a ridiculous deck! This is certainly something I would play. I know some people who would literally start spewing foam out of their mouths in rage if they had to lose to something like this. +1 from me! Maybe some day Ill be able to make neat decks that make the front page like this! :3

I'm not sure that putrefy alone justifies splashing black. Great deck, though

the tutors are a very good reason though. say you got enough defenders but need a wincon. theres one for you. Although I think they should be a main deck item... dont really need the mob justice.... wouldnt expect to get out more than 10 creatures at once. even in a long game. mean. yeah.. 10 dam 10 dam 10 dam you win a two headed giant. which is what this deck looks like. might not be the best solo deck.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is for sure my favorite deck that you have made North. :)
I kind of have a soft for for oddball decks, and so a few years ago I did a defender deck as well. although mine is Naya, not rainbow.

this looks pretty fun. :)

The budget series and a friend of mine wanting a certain type of deck led me to building this thing.

So other than fogbank you have absolutely no defense against flying creatures, so if I play an all flyer deck you lose really fast

not sure that you understand how fast this deck can be.

That's like saying a flying deck can beat any deck that doesn't have flyers lol

Guard Gomazoa? It's like a beefed-up fogbank, and it would get some more blue into the mix.

Very interesting deck, never really used defender creatures much myself. Looking at this deck however new ideas are forming.

I recommend Wall of Spears. A 2/3 first strike can stop deathtouch threats, which I find absolutely obliterate defender decks.
Perhaps also Wall of Blood, since it can get pretty darn huge with Perimeter Captain?
Consider also Colossus of Akros or Door to Nothingness for win-cons.
Leyline of Vitality, perhaps?

a good sideboard card here would be spidersilk armor, to deal with flyers. :) venom is another fun card. kills things without having to actually deal damage.

For a bit of extra fun you could throw a Phenax in there.

not a bad suggestion, but it cant go in here as it doesn't have defender. :(

I can add it. Furystoke Giant has defender neither. A sideboard slot in going to be just fine.

Holy Crap somehow i just saw this for the first time. I congratulate you on completing this deck and have officially tested it with friends. Its pretty hilarious when you win without attacking once.
Great Job man.

Checked it out and i really like it. i like how unlike this deck it uses 3 colors makes it a little more smooth. Not hating on Northy's deck I just like the other perspective.

oh totally. I wasn't looking for a comparison at all. I just figured it might be interesting to you. :)

North builds good solid decks on a low budget, and they are fun. :)

I think that North's deck is far more creative and interesting than mine. :)

did you think about order of the stars or empty-shrine kannushi? I know empty shrine isn't a defender, but it could be useful in a 5 color deck.

How's about Death Frenzy or another wipe like that? With Stalwart Shield-Bearers, you can just shrug it off on your side. A board wipe might be a very good idea considering defenders generally have no way to deal with common deathtouch creatures, save Fog Bank, which dies to almost any removal.
An Agent of the Fates or Royal Assassin could very easily undo your entire deck, especially if you don't have a Putrefy in hand, or they're running 4x.

Hahaha the win conditions are pretty fun. Late game burn is a tough strategy to pull off but if it's to be pulled off, a defender deck will definitely help you get to late game. +1

I've noticed that almost all defender decks are multicolored. I wanted to try making a mono colored deck and would love some feedback and opinions if it's overshadowed by the multicolored defenders. Do note it's a budget deck as well, so please keep suggestions cheap ;) http://www.mtgvault.com/xgodofwaterx/decks/budget-can-you-walltz/
